Portable air conditioners

Portable air conditioners
Does anyone know a cheap place for portable air-con units? I work nights and find it a right pain trying to sleep during the day in this weather (it's bad enough at night). My air cooler is just not up to the job of cooling my room.
The cheapest i've found is this one at Argos for £170:

The only problem is it's home delivery only which is sometime within 21 days. I want one NOW

Don't waste your money on a portable get a fixed system
Having the 3rd one fitted this weekend for Huxley chicks office at home as she spends 3 days a week couped(sp) up in there and it gets foofing hot ,the unit is an LG S12AHP heating and cooling cost for internal and external units £208 trade so we have lounge, main bedroom and office.
As for the cost of running who cares when you can sleep at night

Well it looks like i'm the last person to finally decide to spend my money on one. Everywhere's out of stock this morning. Homebase, B&Q, and a few other places I tried. The only ones left were the £500 fixed units at B&Q
There's another Homebase up the road in Reigate that I might try. But i've done my back in and the only one of my cars that's legal at the mo is my R5 on coilovers, which doesn't help matters *lol*

Spend the money and get a nice fixed system if you are staying in the house for a while. Went overboard and installed 6kw of cooling
Some of the B&Q fixed systems are now illegal to install under the new building regulations part L so be careful before you spend you money.

Meaco.com have a good range in stock and do next day delivery.
I ordered one today.
Yes, it'll be snowing next week, but the productivity here is so low it'll pay for itself in a day.

Ooo, How many BTUs is that little cheapy?
It's a pity I don't have a huge van anymore. I'd be carting the things in from Europe everyday if I had the chance (same price...just swap teh pound sign for the euro sign ).

We use those and they are very good. They are cheaper from other places though.

Fixed had to be the way to go and get the compressor and fans outside.
The portable ones are too noisy to leave on in a bedroom while you are trying to sleep IMO.
Cheers

What are they like for emptying water, I've seen a website where it says automatic condensate removal but the manual talks about a drain plug and a drain tray etc...?

i have a drain plug in the back of mine. i got my unit last year and i opened it last week for the first time and a small amount of water came out. i use mine every night and so far about an egg cup amount of water
there is a light on the unit which would come on if it needed emptying anyway and it never has

Well after touring the South of England yesterday trying to find one I finally got one this morning. I was speaking to a woman in Homebase in Guildford and she said that the public are going mad. A lorry delivered 60 units to them last night and people were there trying to buy them direct off the driver!
I got the last of the 60 at 10:00 this morning and my room's cooling nicely as I type

I don't want to leave my room now. This thing is so much better than my air cooler, quieter as well. Shame my dad's already doing his nut about the electricity bill!
