Lost our hamster - Help!!
No joke, came downstairs to find part of the (crap) cage unhinged, cage was sited on the kitchen floor, and he's gone AWOL.
Most of the house is open plan (no doors, or what there is is left ajar).
We have a 6 year old, so most of the house is full of toys and places for the hamster to hide. I am quite sure there is no way he could have escaped out of the house, so he's inside somewhere. Can hamsters climb stairs?
How can I coax him out? Anyone got any clues before he starts chewing up our carpets. At present we have a line of peanuts back to his cage, with the cage door open, not that I believe for one moment that it'll work, but my boy is distraught and I had to do something before I left for work.
Help appreciated

Thanks peeps,
What about climbing stairs? Do you know if they can? Would help in the search if I can narrow it down the ground floor only.

I had hamsters when I was a kid and they could all climb stairs, they dig their claws into the carpet and up they go!! Same thing for going down again after!
try borrowing a neighbour's cat for a couple of hours just keep close by!

We lost ours when I was a kid, went missing for nearly a week.
Ended up finding it down the cellar when it came to my dad when he was looking for something. I think it had had enough of the cold and no food to eat.
Apparently, you can make a trap by putting food (petshop recommended a chopped egg, but I wouldn't fancy leaving that for any amount of time in this weather ) in a bucket, and making a ramp up to the top of it using a ladder from the cage of a book. Theory is that the litter blighter will go for the food and get trapped in the bucket. Don't know if it'll work but maybe worth a try.
Hope you find him/her soon

Advice: Wait until it's dark tonight and everyone is in bed, then sit quietly in a chair and the hamster will appear. The chances are it hasn't gone far, more likely the kitchen.
This method worked on several ocassions when no amount of daytime searching worked.

I had a hamster on the top of the bookcase in our front room, was watching TV one day and looked up and his cage door was open!
Had a quick look for him and couldn't find him, and I was sure the dog sitting next to me was grinning, sent him outside in case the hamster was still about.
After half an hour of searching, gave up, trying to decide how to tell the mrs that her hamster had gone, sat back down to watch tv and I saw the top of the curtain twitch.
I pulled the TV out and he came sliding down the inside of the curtain, had to coax him out from under the tv cabinet with a chocolate button!!!
That was close!!!
Hpe you find yours.

Told you to get a fish John. At least when they escape they're not gonna go far and the longer they are out the more chance you have of finding them by smell alone
Why not call out to flash and tell him that it's now too hot for hide and seek and does he fancy a beer
Good luck mate hope he finds his way back.

Hello
As above really. We lost ours a couple of months ago and it was in the walls we think as we heard little movements every so often.
I sat around at 10pm with a book, put some carrots and food on the floor and out she popped 20 minutes later.

Well, I went back at lunch and set 2 traps, one up, one downstairs, baited with smelly cheese which he likes, (plus the usual dry rot they eat). I also thoroughly searched each room, but most of them are acting as mini lofts with so much sh1te it's impossible to know if the little bugger is there or not
Here's hoping he's been enticed out when I get home, otherwise it could be an evening crawling around the floor with a stephoscope or searching for maggot sized hamster **** and small puddles of p1ss... great!!

Bugger was under the floorboards! Bit of cheese coaxed him out, so glad he's ok, spent our entire night looking.
