Unhappy thank god for pet insurance!

had a bit of a shock this week................my chiuhuahua..... had problems breathing so i took her to the vet. her tongue and gums were blue and she was making odd noises trying to breath. the vet aranged for her to be taken to another vet in the practice as she needed oxygen therapy, she was then transferred to an emergency vets for the night by ambulance and then she went back to the previous vet the following day.it looks like her trachea has collapsed (problem with small dogs) and she will need surgery. the trachea has a ligament problem and she will need a piece of tubing inserted into it to keep it open and she will also need a tracheatomy(sp) while this is done. as she is only 7 months old she is very tiny, 2.5lbs the operation is very dangerous. she has been given a steroid jab so she can be home for the weekend and on Monday she is having a general aneasthetic so a camera can be put in her airway. the treatment has already cost nearly £200 and will cost between £1000-£2000
she is also going to need her milk teeth rremoving as she now has two sets of teeth. if anyone thinks pet insurance is a waste of money then think again. i have only had insurance for two months but already her treatment has been dearer than the yearly policy

lol, little thing, she is a dog (sort of)

the operation carries a lot of risks. imagine a paper straw, that is the size of her windpipe

i got her insured as i knew that chi's were prone to the kneecap moving and needing surgery to correct it but i didnt think for one moment that she would grow two sets of teeth as well as the breathing problems. she has had small probs with her breathing, but they were self limiting. i have to put my finger over her nostrils when she has an episode, but it progressed into something more serious
unfortunately the smaller the animal the bigger the cost. i was going to get another one but i m not so sure now

This little guy......

is about £4500 into his insurance with DIRECTLINE (cant fault em they've been great, hence the caps). He's had 2 major stomach operations culminating in him having 2ft of his intestines removed. Also he had to have a biopsy for a lump in his mouth and £1000 worth of tests for problems with his weight (stomach related?)!

I feel for you.

Andy.

i was at the vet with my EBT yesterday! seems all the pets are struggling!

turns out his heart his twice the size it should be and he should have died about a year ago! (common prob for heavy dogs and he's pretty old for an EBT now)

on tablets for however any weeks he has left and not allowed any stress but i'm tempted to show him a rat under the shed so he can go out fighting!

Yeah a husky. Can't let the b@5tard off though! Took him the park a while ago and let him off in the enclosure they have. When i went in it was hot and sunny, when he finally came back to me (he got bored) it was pi55ing down and windy, 2hrs in less than 1/4 of an acre !

when i got mine i was told that i needed at least 6 foot fencing and the neighbours objected. he was very wolf looking and had one blue and one brown eye.
he chased a horse and tried to kill a sheep so i decided i wouldnt be able to cope. he needed to be on a lead all the time which was a shame as he needed a lot of exercise and i am no good at running

EBT....Bull Terrier, looking at this picture i should have seen the signs - in his prime he would have launched my kid off his back and eaten his shoes for trying to nick his kong toy.....i thought he was just tired!

my son is not happy now...he thought he had beaten a savage beast but it seems in dog years he beat a 116 year old mutt with a heart like Rick Waller!

Cruciate ligament? TPLO operation? Did one of those on thursday. £800 a leg we usually charge. And I hate to tell you this once one leg goes the other tends to aswell. The german sheperd we had in on thursday had £1600 worth of back legs!!!

I hope she feels better soon SS, I will be thinking of her on Monday

I was glad we had pet insurance with our Bengal, he had a thing about his tail when he was a kitten and almost had to have it amputated ( a manx bengal ) Vets were great and did all they could so he didn't lose his tail, it's a bit bent and twitchy but better than none at all

Unhappy

Poor little sod. In this hot weather too.

Mind you I saw loads of people with these tiny dogs posing on Venice Beach in LA when I was there. It seemed like the more obese the owner, the smaller the pooch lol.

How fat are you?

Good... *******... god.

You people don't own dogs, your own malfunctioning handbag accessories.

Squares: you have bought an animal to be like Paris Hilton without considering the fact that the poor ****** is a genetic mess. Congratulations on your purchase and your subsequent attention seeking threads on its wellbeing

The Smug Whiner: how you guffawed at your badly behaved brat throwing himself on your ailing dog. You should have known it was dieing because, as you say, the overfed dog would have flung your overfed son's disobedient, spoilt carcass into the hedgerows.... or the shabby building site next door perhaps

People.
