cheapy cheap cheap private plates
been watching them go on ebay for 10 odd pounds? plus transfer fee of £80
thats surely cheap as chips?
i want a plate just to hide the year of a recovery truck, is there a database of these reg numbers anywere etc were i can pick one?

DVLA - £250 including transfer fee.
In the last two years i have purchased 3 plates from them. Just space it correctly & they always give my intials
I didnt buy them to hid age just wanted them tbh

i dont know-but im sure a call to dvla and they would tell you what year that reg was released-at end of day that was originally released on some old car as a standard reg plate-just many years ago

Certain plates are held back and sold in auctions. These ones i believe have not been registered and do not have a year. They are referred to as dateless registrations.

They are cheap because they look crap, in fact most expensive ones look crap as well, I would say that one percent of private plates look either cool or funny, the rest just mark you out as a wannabe sad case if they are cheap or a show off if expensive. We have one on retention (long story), I could put it on my car but I dont want everyone to know where I have been or wonder why the plate is worth several times more than the car its on !

I've also got one which used to belong to my Cousin, who happened to share the same first name. He had owned it from the late 60's, but he had to give up driving a few years ago so I bought it off him.
TBH, I wouldn't have bought one if it hadn't belonged to him.
