How diverse is your music taste ?
Something I've always wondered.
I have such a wide appreciation of music. In fact its easier to say what I don't like and that would be modern jazz and opera.
What set me thinking on this was a concert I took me dear 82 yr old mum to last week. It was the Bert Kaempfert Orchestra. I actually found myself foot tapping along to quite a few tunes and it set me thinking just how wide an appreciation of music do most folks have?
Having said the above , I also am a great fan of Muse, The Eagles, AfroCelt, Avril Lavigne, Pink, ........ the list goes on.
be interested in you lot bearing your souls and letting me into that music appreciation you keep so secret.
Yve

thats a great question Yve !
I love all sorts of music..... from classical ( favorite is Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata) to todays 'thrash metal' ( likes of slipknot, trivium, avenged sevenfold, rammstein)
I'd say my music likes are very diverse!
always prefer to listen to rock when driving tho!
at the moment, i have a compilation of metallica, dragon force and avenged sevenfold in the car.
inbetweens... 60's music, 80's music, alternative stuff.. list is pretty endless... but like yourself, i can't be doing with Jazz or opera!

SD That's comforting. I have tried listening to various kinds of Modern jazz and it just grates every time. I can get along with trad jazz no probs, but that tuneless stuff called modern is (to me anyway) pants.
As for opera, again, I can go with the light stuff like Gilbert & Sullivan and some individual peices from the greats like Madam Butterfly, La Traviata etc. But when that woman starts howling like a banshee.... grrrrr.

I like all kind of music as long as it is worth listening and, pleasant to my ears. It's gotta be sonorous.I don't care if it's rock, hiphop or even country music.
I am quite pissed off with some recent dance tunes and noisy pop though. Some serious monotonous trash!
I love opera!
Amahl and Les Miserables are wonderful!

Pretty much anything, although chances are if it's country music - I won't really like it!
I love a bit of classical - I'm actually going to the local outdoor proms on Saturday night with my gf and her friend, apparently G4 will be there , quite looking forward to it though (well, the picnic and champagne anyway! ) .
I downloaded a great track the other day - Warren G feat. Sissel - can't remember what it's called, but it's a piece of classical music played over a hip hop beat, it was out years ago but just popped into my head the other day.

some 70,s - deffo 80,s some 90,s and beyond.
Opera's good, as is mor, soundtracks, classic fm in the car as i drive home, and invariably on on a sunday morning on the tv when i,m up with the kids.
not keen on the 60,s- had it rammed down my throat by my older sister when young, so dislike with a passion.
saying that i like some odd stuff from artists in that era, but there a minority.
as someone on here said, it can be anyone or thing, if the music grabs me within the first 5 seconds, i,ll give it a listen, if not its a fastforward button.

Working my way through the Chicago albums XI, XII, XIII, X, XI and XIV at the moment (I've already done Chicago I, II, III and V)
Previous to that I've been listening to the KLF back catalogue and the amazing Propaganda albums. All this while listening to my old collection of Kiss FM 1 hour Soulwax and Outlaws bootleg mixes, and more recent Digweed, Joe Ransom etc Kiss mixes. Plus I'm loving 'Rescue Me' by Fontella Bass (60s soul) and various classic old skool tunes (Nenah Cherry - Manchild for example)
Is the eclectic enough?
Not much contemporary stuff though - Its all cr*p to my ears (apart from creative breaks 'n beats and deep housey type tracks)

I listen to anything and everything.
What I don't listen in general is modern pop. be it rock pop, pop pop(hmm ), R&B pop (or whatever the MOBO bunch want to classify it as), Rap rock, typical humdrum gansta rap (not to be confused with some acts such as Outkast) and pretty much any modern euro/US/UK trash dance (not to be confused to the more alternate and inventive electronica dance music i.e faithless amongst a few )

Sounds to me like you are totally contradicting yourself there mate!!
How can you generalise about such different music like that?
Sounds like you've decided you won't like it "on principal", before you've even listened to it.

Uh Oh.... no fighting boys...keep this one clean.
Someone up there pointed out the emotion thing.
Can music move you ? I hear some pieces and depending on my mood anyway, it can make me cry, feel nostalgic and some guitar music can ...well..... oh YES !
...Oh sorry about that, got carried away.

lost count at 12000 records......plenty of genres in there. Wide variety of stuff- im no musical snob. If I like it, I buy it, and will go through hell to get hold of the 12".
Worringly in that lot I have a lot of the stuff i remember my dad having on the radio in the car when i was really young.... I mean worryingly in the sense I am getting old, not the fact the music is bad!

Note the words "in general" which does NOT mean an outright refusal on principal, just an observation of trend in my listening habits
As in generally I tend not to find those particular genres appealing. But then, there is always the odd one that gets through. And of course there are some genres, and artists that classify their music as a certain genre where I would personally call it otherwise (eg, modern R&B )
I'm an alternate listener, so I have a natural habit going against the grain of what the commercial music charts dictate, just to find something that is different to the norm to feast my ears upon.
