So you can steal a bike, provided you don't wear a helmet. Apparently the police are more concerned about kids being knocked down in the pursuit, when joyriders are obviously going to strictly adhere to road laws and not be a danger unless chased.
Madness!

On the same principle, if I was to go out and steal a car right now, if I didn't wear my seatbelt would that render the police unable to give chase?
What an absolute ******* joke

So you can now beat-up, stab, and throttle someone for his/her scooter or bike, and happily ride off into the sunset in the blissfulll knowledge you can get away scott free.................

it all boils down to this new sueing every body for the slightist thing.
The police have to be very careful in this new age. If the to55ser crashed and survived he go straight to a solicitor. Im affraid thats todays britain.

I'm with OllyK on this one - pursue them (they have broken the law and don't forget that's what they are paid to do) and if you catch them, do them for theft, driving without insurance and not wearing a helmet. If they crash and survive, still do them for the above. If they die in the crash, sad, but hey, if they hadn't taken it in the first place......

This does not surprise me in the slightest.
The overtly PC, and pathetic attitude in this country has even got the Police questioning what they should do in fear of repercussion.
The Police, like everybody else, question everything they do or say in fear of repercussion - and you can't blame them!! the officer in question knew that chasing the thieves was the correct thing to do.
It's trade off:
The right thing to do 'Vs' The potential repercussions of that action.
Sad state of affairs.

Well talking from experience even if the police did catch him the CPS would do **** all As some will remember from a few years back when I posted here I had my 5 day old R1 nicked from central London in broad daylight in front of a crowd of people.
The police caught the bloke on it 5 days later, bang to rights everyone thought. He was banged to rights but the CPS were only interested in giving him a slapped wrist by way of a £350 fine, a years ban (what did he care he didn't have a bike license anyway!) and told not to do it again. He was convicted of taking a vehicle without consent How about doing him for proper vehicle theft which is what he was caught for? I went ******* ape **** at the verdict and the police weren't exactly impressed either after all the hard work they had done to get the bike back.
The bottom line here is the CPS who are to blame for the crime in this country, not the police. The CPS couldn't give a flying **** about protecting our property from thieving scum.
I've decided that at only £350 a time (thats if you get caught) that bike crime pays. £350 fine for nicking an £8k bike? Bargain! No wonder the cvnt was laughing

Not 100% sure but most forces are not allowed to pursue motorcycles even if they are wearing helmets, even the advanced drivers arent allowed to.
Something to do with been able to effect a safe stop, think he same even refers to push bikes aswell.

just punt them off the road!! pit maneuvere i think the yanks call it!!
if they aint with us, they cant do it again.
sorry i have no sympathy for vehicle theft, had it done as as earlier, the sentances are laughable!!!!
you only have to look in the paper today...
An uninsured unlicenced driver (non ic 1) killed a 18 month old girl, he gets 2.5 years... and a £350 fine
A bank manager nicks a few million, and gets 10 years,,,
as the paper said, want to bet who will be out first!!
