Default getting carpets fitted - logistics? im in a flat

Hi All

I want to re carpet my entire flat - 2 bedrooms - quite a large flat.

My concern is - how the hell do I do this with all my furniture in place already? Will the fitters do this ?? Im sure its possible ??

They'll fill the rooms' contents with helium to allow it levitate while they fit, they'll then simply discharge the gas to bring in back to floor level. (Make sure they release it slowly or the impact will break most of your stuff.)

if they run out of helium, then they will expect you to have cleared enough rooms to enable them to commence (ie put everything from the bedrooms in your lounge, then vice versa when the bedroom floor coverings are sorted). the fitters are highly unlikely to move everything for you in my experience (but maybe that's just because of the suppliers i've used in the past; who knows!)

In my limited experience of using carpet fitters they usually require that the area concerned is ready for fitting and clear of furniture. I'd advise calling up the fitters and clarifying their policy.

Stack all of your furniture up in the kitchen, put the kettle on the living room floor and buy some pot noodles for the duration. You'll manage.

I did our flat in April, all rooms except the bathroom. Basically, move oall the small stuff into the bathroom [this includes contents of drawers and wardrobes]. They will normally charge about £20 - £25 per room to move your furniture about whilst fitting carpets.

One thing to remember is that the carpet may be thicker than the old one. This may require the bottom of your doors needing a shave, fitters generally don't do this these days due to insurance.

Good Luck
