Question Selling tickets on Ebay

Is it illegal to sell tickets for sports events, for example on Ebay?

I'm not clear on the law on this subject.

I have tickets for an upcoming sprts event, but I can't make it, because I'm now going to a concert.

I'm not a tout. Yet!

It may state on the ticket or when you bought it that the ticket must not be sold on.

If not you should be OK.

Hmmm...yeah...it does say they're for use by the original purchaser only, but does that really matter (assuming that the organisers don't find out)?

I mean, is it actually illegal? I guess it can't be, because every time I go to a concert, I see touts selling tickets at exorbitant prices.

I think tickets are specifically mentionned in eBay's rules. I know football tickets aren't supposed to be sold on, although I have seen somebody trying to get round it by selling an envelope with free tickets for the highest bidder...

As others have said, I believe that there is a law on the resale of football tickets, but other sporting events should be okay. Out of interest what was the sporting event?

World Cup final?!

Ahhhhh...the World Cup Final...how could anyone ever sell their tickets?!?

No, it's for Wimbledon. Would love to go, but it clashes with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Wimbledon don't allow tickets to be resold, their website says:
Championship tickets may not be bought, sold or distributed without lawful authority.

But I guess it is unenforceable, and there seem to be a few Wimbledon tickets already on eBay. I'd say go for it!

I saw her last year. Man, she really grunts a lot. Thing is, it was over so quickly!

Exclamation

You can sell tickets legally on eBay UNLESS the original vendor's Ts & Cs prohibit you from so doing.

Wimbledon have become more and more strict on the selling of their tickets over the years. It used to be quite a nice little earner
