Default What language do the World cup ref's speak?

Do all the teams have to be versed in English, or do they pick a ref that can speak both languages of the opposing teams?

think the *hand * signals and the obligatory word 'NO' is quite Universal, but i spose a few of the refs and lts of the players speak more than one language nowadays due to playing in different countries

if you're watching on a bbc channel via sky, you can press the red button and select audio source "referee" - if it's the same as the rugby

Looks as though they manage pretty well with sign language and bits of coloured cardboard.

What's wrong with Spanglish then? That's a perfectly good language practiced by most of us on our holidays with great communicative success, surely

Example I overheard last year:

" You oh, b'stardo, bring me a drink oh, pronto!"

Couple that to yellow and red coloured flags and most ref's will get on fine (unless your name is Poll, of course )
