This worked on some glass in my foot, not sure about metal
Mix some soap, not the runny stuff, block soap with some sugar. Mix it well to a paste and put on the splinter. Cover with a plaster, leave till the next morning. The splinter should be in the plaster as the mix draws it out. My nan told me this one years ago
Wonder if she was a witch

Stanley blades are better, and a needle to pick at it.
Don't forget to disinfect under a flame
Hactually, I'm in the mood to see if I can dig out that splinter of mine....it's only been in for over a year

Soak your thumb in a bowl of warm water and then try to prise it out with a needle or pin... making sure you have disinfected the sharp object with boiling water first

nibble away at your thumb .. it will eventually **** you off to the point you will do just about anything to get the sodding thing out even pouring scouring powder in and packing it out with fuel soaked rags, setting fire to it once done.. might get a few bob for it as scrap then

Put some antiseptic cream in the area if it's leaking pus! It will come out eventually but you probably won't want to wait. Had the same thing once, can't think what from now...

Go to the chemist and ask for help. Our little boy got some wood splinters in his hand and there's a tar-based antiseptic balsam available you apply to area which softens the skin and 'pulls' out the splinter. Local version here goes under the brand "Daroderm".
Good luck!
