Advice on Sky Problem

A couple of times a week when I switch to Sky I cannot get all channels. Gets stuck on "Waiting for Listing" or something like that. I then need to turn off everything and take out and replace viewer card which seems to fix it. The question is - is this likely to be a Sky Box problem or something else? I bought a reconditioned box some weeks ago and wondered if it was playing up in which case I will take it back and seek advice. TIA, dl
mine does this occasionally and a reset does sort it out.
Is yours permanently connected to the phone line? Mine isnt and I wouldn't be surprised if it is something to do with this as I believe the box is set to ring "home" every so often.
This of course could be utter bollocks

Mine used to do the same. So all I did was unplug it for 5-10 minutes not taking the skycard out then plug back in again. Worked for me. Although it did seem to do it for a couple of weeks though, doesn`t now. Must have got fed up of me pulling the plug!!! Sorry for the limp joke.
Hope this may help.

Yes always plugged into phone line. I don't mind the odd reset every few weeks but its always bloody doing it - which means I have to get out of my chair and walk across the room. I ask you!!! Thing is it didn't used to do it all the time which is why I wondered if box was on way out.

Mine's being playing up lately, in just the way you describe. Reset fixes it, but it's increasingly frequent and annoying. Losing BBC channels a lot...
My BT line is up the spout too, but I'm not convinced they're connected. Sky's been mildly on the blink for a few weeks... plus I never used to have the sky box plugged in to the telephone line anyway, although it is at the mo.

Slight digression. What does phone connection on Sky set-up provide? Is it just for my kids to spend my money on ordering a film or does it update Sky stuff without you knowing?
Remove mains power, hold the "Backup" button on the front panel while re-connecting mains power and continue holding until 4 leds come on (maybe about 20 secs)...at this point let go of the button and a message should appear on-screen saying "Updating System Software"...this will take about 10 mins and when it's finished the box will switch to standby...wait a further 1 min and then press the Sky button...it will do a "Searching for Listings" and then go to the Sky Welcome page. Hope this helps

My Sky box sometimes will not change channel or do anything else although the current channel is still running.
I just unplug it for a short time and then plug it back in. It has to get itself all sorted out when I switch it back on with the controller before I can switch to the channel I want.
