Default Algorithm for team fixtures

OK, I took on a task for a friend thinking it wouldn't be a big deal, however the rules around it prevent it being a nested loop solution.

I need to schedule 12 teams (A to L) over 6 rinks. This works out as 11 sessions so a grid of the form:


SESSIONS
..1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11

R 2
I 3
N 4
K 5
..6


With the teams being displayed as pairs in the grid. So far so good, however, obviously a team can't appear twice in a given session and the real kicker is that a team can't play on any rink more than twice (the original requirement was once but I pointed the flaw out in that one )

Random placement with a check just doesn't work, it gets about half way and gets to a no win situation. Has anybody produced anything similar and can provide me a solution that I can program without needing bloody AI?

It look like that is using the same Berger tables as lightning101 pointed out. I may be able to modify that to solve the problem out a team playing on the same rink more than twice!
