Gosh, I'd be paying a lot of tax then. I wonder if they'll take a tip from MS and do it per CPU?

Idiots.

The ******* BBC shouldn't have a poxy web site in the first place.

If they didn't waste so much money on Web sites, Radio etc maybe they could compete with Sky for the TV rights to the Premiership

And while we're on this subject - I don't need to see the TV presenters from the BBC in Germany - I'm sure they can spout their ****e from a studio in London !

It's time the BBC got back to doing what it should do - Produce TV programmes not all the other pish !

I actually think BBCi is one of the best parts of what the license fee gets me. Would you rather use ceefax?

I'd rather not pay a licence fee at all - if they want to produce TV then get it paid for on a commercial basis.

I've always said that the BBC seem to think they invented the internet. It's no surprise they try this one on. I expect New Labour will back the idea too.

Hmm, that's going to be difficult to track. Would it be a tax on every new computer? And what's a new computer? One bought from PCWorld/Dell/ToysRUs etc, or one built from scratch by buying the components? What about upgrading a computer?
And what if you don't use broadband?

Oh, and what about those houses that already have a TV and a PC? It's likely they'kll have a licence to receive broadcasts, so are they exempt?

And what about mobile phones?

It really hasn't been though through has it.

The issue here is that the BBC can afford to produce quality media (the envy of the world, seriously) without a commercial slant. This sets a high bar for the commercial firms to compete with and improves TV et al generally. Whilst I'm not suggesting the BBC are faultless, and with the exception of Holby City, I'm grateful to the BBC for their broadcasting. If people are going to argue that the BBC should be pay per view then...well......they're wrong . There are far too many people living in this country who can barely follow the content of BBC4, let alone choose to pay to watch it. Much fairer this way <nods>.

You are joking right? Let's look at tonights selection of sh*te:

First up, the abysmal - Question of Sport (should have been axed years ago) followed by the endlessly repeated rubbish known as Open All Hours then, joy of joys - BellEnders (for the chav scum) after that treat, some complete garbage featuring a selection of Z list BBC luvvies called - New Tricks (if only) all topped with a (un)healthy dollop of Jonathan Dross and then finally, for the neaderthals back from the friday night pub brawl - World Cup Match of the Day

ooo... ain't we lucky.

Quality my **** Next you'll be telling me we've never had it so good under New Labour rule.

I am neither a Labour supporter nor would I attribute the BBC's capacity for first class broadcasting to NL's period in office.

The first one was commisioned by BBC Scotland - hardly representative of the muck produced at the London HQ.

The second was not as advertised, and was actually **** poor typical BBC dross.

Punching above my weight?!? A wannabe Bhudist Tree Hugging Bed Salesman?

Actually I find that comment quite offensive and may have to RTM your post.

I would say that Question of Sport, Open all Hours, and New Tricks are all good programmes with a high entertainment value but by the same token there is a lot of rubbish on all the terrestrial channels. Most of the freeview channels are not worth the candle either. Sky certainly offers a wide choice at least and you can usually find something worth watching on their channels.

I agree with Stainy, the obscene salaries paid to artistes etc these days are like footballers well over the top and they are just not worth the money. I object to my licence fee being used in this way.

We have to realise that the authorities are looking for any way they can charge us more money to fund their incompetent methods of running the country, if you can call it that, and to maintain their own lifestyles of course.
Time we were rid of them I think.

Gotta say Les you have a strange idea of what constitutes quality entertainment. I could never regard any programme with either David Jenson or Reggie Harker (or whatever his name is) in posessing either quality or entertainment value, especially as when it is being repeated for the 100th time.

Nothing to do with repeats UB, its all a matter of personal choice of course and I think they were good programmes when they were first shown, Open all Hours I mean. First class acting and great comedy with good supporting actors too. I don't watch the repeats since they have been on many times.

If you don't like watching David Janson or Ronnie Barker that is your choice of course, but I bet there are a good few who do like them.

They will tax PC's if, and when, TV programmes are received that way (but you won't have to pay for a TV Licence) ..... sounds perfectly fine to me!

You all want the Government to improve the NHS, beat Crime, Lock up all chavs, educate our children better ..............

I've got news for you - that all costs MONEY!!!

So, either you pay and enjoy the superb facilities you have now ...... or don't pay but end up in the mess the Tories left in 1997!!

We have a Government who says pay .... thats how it is - you are much more wealthy now than at any point in history .... all they ask is that you give a bit back to help those who are struggling and sick!!

I'm glad your missus was ok after the op .....

I'm also glad you paid for BUPA - it frees up funds and resourses for those less fortunate than yourself.

I guess Labour has something to do with your wealth!!

So, STOP bloody moaning!!!! Under the Tories there would be NO NHS!!!
