Any Update on when Sony Ericsson P990 out?
#4
David,
Like you I have been waiting for this all year. My inside contact in the telephony world was hoping to lay their hands on a prototype this month but even that has been pulled.
I am getting tired of waiting. I have always had Sony phones and it has always been worth the wait but this is ridiculous. IIRC its almost a year behind schedule.
What bugs me most is how little information is coming out of SonyE on this.
Poor show.

yep ordered mine mid may and was told expected deliveries w/c 22 may. got an email to say this had been put back until mid july and since then another email putting it back to end of august. i am getting tired wait as well, and i reduced my contract to O2 25 as it was free for a year. i was going to give my P910 to my dad and get the O2 250 for my new P990.

I too was awaiting the arrival of the P990.
My trusty old P910 has been with me since they were released. I tried a Nokia the other week on 'upgrade' and I sent it back the next day.
I'm now waiting for the Orange spv M600 to come back into stock, it's the closest you're going to get to the P910 by the looks of things. I love the whole screen being touch screen on the P910 and was dissapointed to see the 990. The M600 is full touch screen, 2mp camera, windows etc and is slightly smaller than the P910.

Also lots of rumours about the software being buggy, which is where you guys come in to either confirm or dispel such rumours.

I love it. Improved phone abilites over the P910i in Flip closed mode. Much more like any other phone out there. Internet on it is very fast and formats well using the built in Opera browser. I've not managed to try the built in WiFi yet. I've set up RSS feeds to get the latest news. Can send and receive emails through my gmail no probs.
ask about the phone and if I can answer I will

It's only available SIM Free or Via voda at the mo. I got mine on contract with Voda. 500Xnetwork mins, Stop the clock (talk for an hour but only use 3 mins from your minutes) + 1000 texts which with the new voda tariffs is the only way to get MMS and data taken from your text allocation.
Not sure when it's due on Orange but my bet is they butcher the Firmware somewhat.
Worth the wait? I was pretty happy with my P910i so I wasn't too fussed about the delays but now I have it I can see it's a step forward and I'm happy with it. There are a few niggles such as the 2mp camera is now not the top spec but the pictures are pretty good from it IMHO. Will post a couple of pics if you wish?
It seems to eat into the available memory pretty quickly as well but so far it's not caused me any issues it's more the fact I like to know there is plenty free to have several apps running at once.
The screen is superb on it and the mp4 video playback is far better than my P910i at 25fps.
PS I'm keeping it for now put it that way

Reception is fine... No probs at all on Voda. I have a multitude of the old style chargers for SE phones but this has the new 'fastport' style. My phone died after 2 days of use before I got chance to charge it again. I would prefer it to last a little longer than that but I guess the battery is still getting up to full working capacity being a week old.
Also since then I've dropped the screen brightness down from 90% (very very bright!) to 30% and it's fine for indoor use (about the same as the P910i on 100%). I would prob kick it back up again if I was outside.
I've also turned off 3G as I'm not using it and I've been told that uses battery as well.
Overall. Still very happy with it.
Ok nice little feature I've just tried and it worked perfectly.
Business card scanner. Took a pic of a business card at work and it transfers all the info from it into a business contact complete with the pic of the card for future reference. Limited use but still pretty cool
I've also tried a few videos I've downloaded and the playback is far superior to that of the old P910i. 25fps and it looks great.
