Sometimes they won't work if the battery is too far gone, or when it is fully charged anyway.

I have had an Accumate connected to my car for the best part of 3 years. The intelligent ones are very good for your battery, and will keep it going for years.

Accumate and Ctek come well recomended, others I cannot comment on.

I have two trickle chargers currently topping up my cars. Work perfectly for me. My m3 's battery only last's a couple of weeks if left uncharged / started, but the trickle charger sorts that out.

Currently, both of my chargers are charging two near flat batteries. Okay, it will take a few days, but it works.
