M.O.T and if it fails you have 24 hours to get it fixed!
Hi,
Was in at the local independent garage the other day getting my Clio Air-con regassed. When some bloke came in asking about the M.O.T. The bloke on the counter mentioned that if something is wrong with the car you have now only 24 hours to get it put right. And that was only on some parts and not others. Have the rules changed now? As I seem to recall you used to have 7 days to get things put right.

I think if your car is deemed 'unsafe for the road' that applies.
If he lets you leave with no brakes and 3 baldy tyres after an inspection then he isn't doing his job

LOL - the same normal rules still apply using the booked in for repair line:
Cars and motorcycles MUST normally pass an MOT test three years from the date of the first registration and every year after that. You MUST NOT drive a vehicle without an MOT certificate, when it should have one. Driving an unroadworthy vehicle may invalidate your insurance. Exceptionally, you may drive to a pre-arranged test appointment or to a garage for repairs required for the test.

I believe you have 24 hours on certain failures which if rectified, only need a partial test.
Past 24 hours and the whole test has to be taken again.
Re-tests used to be free, but now charge atleast £25.
