Your employers policy on watching the World Cup games
What is your companies policy for those who want to watch England's World Cup games that happen during working hours? IE not everyone works 9-5.
I have worked at a place before that streamed the TV channels to our desktops for the important games so they would keep staff happy and ensure they stayed at their desks instead of disappearing down the pub or calling in sick. I think that was an exception to the rule though.
Where I work now I have asked our Head of Department what the policy is and he said he would get back to me, ie they hadn't thought about it.
Anyone work at a place that gets the telly in for staff to watch the games and anyone work at a place that tells its staff tough luck your at work, sod the football?

our policy at World Cups/Euro Champs is to provde a large screen telly in the canteen and move/extend breaks to allow the guys to watch the full match and about fifteen/twenty minutes afterwards.
We then sell raffle tickets for charity and the winner gets the telly.
It works for us, the guys all think its a good policy and we get high labour levels when others are struggling.
No booze though

This football mania is doing my head in. Surely I can't be the only one?
Did you get time off for world Rugby / Olympics / Tennis etc etc etc
If you worked weekends, would you get time off for F1?
It's a bloody game!
30 odd over-paid blokes kicking a ball about.
Surely there are other things going on in the world to warrent more (media) attention?

We have 9 TV's ready for the staff that are not at the games. The joys of working for a German Major. Any lunchtime/Afternoon game is a mandatory pub break for all staff

Football as a business is a global multi billion pound industry that warrants such media attention.
If you don't like football no one is forcing you to watch it, simple.
All the employers I have worked for have made allowances for employees to watch England games in the World Cup or the Euro Championships because they understand that employing a lot of people who like football would be very bad for them to put a ban on seeing the games. Plus the senior management quite often are the ones at the front watching the games.

At the college, got a great big screen with the LCD projector hooked up to PC/TV tuner
We WILL all be watching the footie - the only stipulation I've said is that everybody (inc staff) do a daily goal sheet. The contents of which have to be ahcieved, otherwise the LCD goes back in the office.
Thought that was fair. Probably too much so

It's over rated IMO
Can't stand it
What is the big deal about a bunch of pretty men prancing around on some grass chasing a fecking ball like bloomin' big kids?

I am allowing the traffic guys to bring a small portable tv into the office under strict instruction that the volume does not interfear with the working of others or telephone calls.

I'm my own boss so I am watching every single game and am intending to fly back to Europe if England can make it to the final. Sadly, I can't take the time to come back for the whole tournament.
In previous jobs, every sinlge boss has actively encouraged the watching of all England games in the pub, and other major games at people desks.
It's an easy way to boost morale. Any boss who doesn't understand the connection between happy staff and productive staff won't be in business long.

We'll have a Plasma screen setup in the canteen. I'll be streaming the games to my laptop sat in mission control
However i'm away on holiday for the group matches so i'll be down the pub with a beer in my hand!

No TV.
Our work is safety critical so no distractions for my Lads.
Some have put holidays in and some have swapped shifts with those who are not bothered about football.
Cheers

Not many matches clash with work this year anyway unlike the South Korea and Japan WC. Probably be allowed to work through our lunch to leave early or what ever but I doubt we'd be forced to miss it, anyway Id book it off if I was in the country but I'll be out there anyway for it all

Anyone watching football instead of working in my office will get treated just the same as if they had been watching **** and not working.
The sort of person who thinks football is important enough to risk their job over isn't someone I want working for me anyway.

We've just installed a TV tuner in one of our PCs for all staff (who are interested) to watch when matches are on. Stipulations are that match takes second shout to WORK and any f'ups due to concentrating on match, then TV card will go. Fair does imho (we're a courier company so have to respond to client requests when needed immediately).
