I need one for a new job to bang expenses on, something I can view online etc..I've never had one so I'm buggered if I know whats a good deal or not.
any suggestions? I heard scoobynet members live their lives on the tick, so thought it would be a good place to ask

If it's going to get paid off fully every month, you want to get a money back card.
American Express Platinum is best with up to 2% back, but there are quite a few places that don't accept Amex.
The best non-Amex card is Morgan Stanley platinum card with 1% cashback.

Morgan Stanley platinum are pretty good - its easy to check your statements online, and you can pay them online and arrange direct debit payments too.
You also get 0.5% cashback on everything you spend (used to be 1%!!) but still better than nothing!

However, they haven't implemented a full EMV (Chip & PIN) solution yet, so they do not have a facility for changing your PIN at an ATM. You have to fill in a form, send it back and they send you a new card .
Oh, and the Platinum card is 2% cashback for the first few months, then 1%.

Ive been very happy with Morgan Stanley - their online statements are excellent, and its nice being able to just log in and pay off your balance with your switch card, or setup a direct debt to automatically pay off your balance each month.
American Express platinum 2% cashback isnt as good as it first looks - you get 0.5% back on the first £3k, then 1% back on the £3-£7.5k, then 2% on spending over £7.5k...

The limits are correct for the Amex platinum card - That said if you're booking flights etc then it doesn't take long to get into the 2% bracket on the Amex. I've never had a problem using it on business but some retailers don't accept it (I believe that Amex charge the retailer more to use their card versus Visa/Mastercard) so I also have a Morgan Stanley platinum card for those.

I went for a BMI Card to get the points. 2 points per pound and 20k points for flight in Europe. Good deal I thought

Oh, and you get 20k points as soon as you apply
