Question New house without a phone line, need a BT number...

...but without actually going with them for my line rental & broadband, can i get them round to setup the number etc. without using them as my provider? wanted to go with Bulldog, they'd set me up straight away if i had a BT number, but if i didn't i'd have to wait until July same story with TalkTalk, they said no broadband until August anyway round this?

Can you get them to set it up and then cancel the contract after a month or two?

That'd cost the years worth of contract though wouldnt it? Or they'll demand an installation charge for the line. Which BT may actually connect for you anyway for an installation charge (wouldnt suprise me though if this is as expensive as just setting up a BT account).

I've just recently had a BT line installed and it really p1ssed me off giving them £100 for connection - which took the BT engineer all of 2 minutes. He wouldn't wire up the extension socket (which took me 1 minute when I knew how) without another visit (and associated rip-off cost).

On principle I went with plus.net for the broadband, even though I had to wait a further 10 days to be connected and BT would have been instant.

Unless you have access to cable, you have to have a BT line.

You don't need a line to watch sky - only to send back the interactive data and order films.
