Puzzled
Can anyone explain the bit about the steel columns? Ideally the roof should appear to float unsupported on slender supports. But the structural engineer defined the smallest column size that was acceptable. McCloud was implying that they should have used something more slender as they spoilt the lines, but I don't see how they could
External gutter looked poor. Felt roof a very bad idea. Blockwork square tower, even worse.
But the overall concept, and an architect style 4 bed 4 bath house built for £230k is pretty good. A very informative and educational programme.

The internal structure was originally designed to be concrete. He changed it to timber, therefore larger uprights were needed on the outside as the timber could not cope with the cantilever of the roof.

edit.. dan beat me too it
That house they were 'leaving' though
I was impressed with the "sheds" near the new house let alone the manor house.
Can understand the clients though, both retired, needed a 'project' to keep him occupied. I bet their builder was pissed off with them though!
