Default Any Quality Managers working in ISO 9001 : 2000 on here?

Any Quality Managers on here who are responsible for maintaining the above Standard for the company they work for/own?

Would be interested on how you find the job as its something I am thinking of going into.

Cheers

I've worked in a lot of operational roles for various multinationals and have taken on QA jobs as part of a role (eg Site manager / General Manager).

Broadly, the job is not exciting (if you're looking for that sort of thing), but it will give you an insight into how a company operates. Experience received depends on the size of the company, you might be working on a local / regional / global QA level.

For example, the job can involve the following:

Maintaining current standards
Putting in controls and sustaining the resulting processes
Procedurising new legistlation
Auditing systems
Liasing with external auditors

A lot of these roles now have a safety function (particularly in industry) as procedurising reporting and feeding back indicators to the business drives quality.

Also, look on some of the Multinational Company websites and conduct a search on quality.

I did it back in the days when it was BS5750, just been on a refresher course for auditing as I've been asked to be an auditor where I am now.

If you're a highly procedural busy body you'll love it, otherwise it's a bit of a bore.

I work with it, its my job

it depends on what you want out of it, its not just about running a qms, its about ensuring that the sum of all parts within the organisation complies with satisfys the needs of the standard...

And integrating H&S is a cop out you dont get paid any more,

salarywise..... depends on what company and what area, get it right and its a good wodge, get it very right, and its a very good wodge.

I currently work for a Quality Assurance company and we certified companies to ISO 9001, 14001, 27001, 18001 etc. Half of my job is looking after our IT system and the other part is making sure the work which comes in from our Assessors meets the requirements of the relevant Standard. I've been there for 10 years and just feel I need to move on to another company, but thought about still working with the above Standards.

Don't really know what I want to be honest lol

Depends how you approach it really. Some of it is a right *******, but the 9001 standard I don't find that bad. The key is to keep it simple and not to read too deeply into it.

I'm finding 27001 a right b@stard though

I know nothing about 27001.

I find all the paperwork takes away the fun from designing

Yeah I know alot of companies implementing the Standard insist on lots of paperwork but we approach it differently and keep paperwork for companies to a minimum. I did one the other day and they only had 3 extra forms to implement. On average most companies have about 5.

Yeah I have 10 years experience with 9000 and 14001. I know we have done some consultancy work on QS9000 but I haven't actually heard of TS 16949 so will look into it.
