Default London - Stuff to do

Me and the missus are to going to a gig in London the 19th then staying over at my mates house. We thought we would drive down on the Thursday(18th) to have a day to ourselves.

Ideally i want to drive to a hotel somewhere just outside London, and get the train in. WE dont really want to be driving to the centre of London etc..

Any suggestion of nice cheap decent hotels or areas to drive to ?

Oh any suggestion of stuff to do in London ?

Thanks guys.

Where are you coming from?

Where in London is the gig?

Where in London is your mate's house?

What do you mean by "stuff to do in London"? Pubs, clubs, parks, shops, museums, sights.... are you 18, 38 or 80?

Camden market, London Dungeons, London Aquarium.

Avoid the planetareum, Madame Tassauds is so so.

I'd see if one of the markets is open first and drift over to the London aquarium and then do the London eye. Head off towards Camden and head towards the food stalls in the Stable market enclosure. There is a stall selling asian food , in the line of food stalls if you come in from the roadside entrance and he's the last one on the line, food is great.

Wander round the market and then have a few pints overlooking the lock and then head back into town. You can check out Oxford St and then off to the gig.

Can't really help with hotels. But if you're staying in Clapham, I doubt you'll want to park'n'ride from a hotel in the northern suburbs, cos it'll be a right pain getting back there. Driving would also be a right pain to be fair, but if it was me I'd drive to the Clapham area and leave it there. Come in on the M40 through west london and you'll miss the C-charge and it shouldn't be too horrible. Maybe look for a hotel in Wimbledon or Richmond - I'm wildly guessing really but they're quite nice leafy areas (in parts). And you'd be on the right side of town (SW) for Clapham.

If you like a bit of art, the Tate Modern isn't bad and it's free. On a nice day, the riverside walk from the London Eye along the south bank to the Tate Mod (by Blackfriars) is generally a nice one. In the middle of town, the ICA on Pall Mall is a good place for modern art lovers, but full of wierd rubbish as far as anyone else is concerned. Not free but cheap usually.

If you like Art, you could walk from Pimlico station to Tate Britain(5mins), after that take the Tate boat along the river to Tate Modern, only a couple of quid

Take a knife with you. If someone confronts you tell them your not lloking for trouble and just minding your business. If you do get stopped tell your woman to carry on walking and protect herself.

Id also reccomend you rent a bulletproof vest from the tourist board for the day.£15 for the vest for 2days. Gotta leave a £50 deposit though. Well worth the money. Have fun!

London Eye is a def. must-do

A wander around Covent Garden if the weather is nice..

A wander through Harrods (not advisable if either of you are shopping lovers )

HMS Belfast is supposed to be ok

Buck Palace if you are into that kind of thing...

A nice lunch somewhere...? Dependent on budget there are loads of nice places - probably a bit to late to book anywhere with a well known chef but you might get lucky with a late cancellation
