Default Nail Extensions

Contemplating getting them done but have heard they ruin your real nails

Is this the case?

What sort of price can I expect to pay?

I used to have acrylics done every two weeks and yes, they ruined my real nails. My real nails are quite weak anyway and after about a year they ended up splitting under the acrylics which then caused the acrylics to crack and chunks break off. Despite using hugely expensive nail oil and olive oil on the bases and in the cuticles they were also really dry.

No matter how careful the technician was I still ended up with ridges in my nails from the drill. I can't remember how much it cost but it wasn't cheap, £27 seems to ring a bell.

Eventually I picked and filed all the acrylic off and left my nails to grow out so that all the yellow stained, ridged horrible bits grew out. My nails are now back to normal

Thanks for that - maybe i won't bother after all.

My nails are weak and break easily

Maybe I'll just get a set of false stick on nails instead

Even continuous use of nail polish ruins mine so I don't wear that any more either. It makes them dry and yellow and they break really easily.

I've grown to love short, natural looking healthy nails instead

I've worn them stick on ones and there crap!

Had to take the glue with me everywhere I went and ended up spending hours searching for the damm things and sticking them back on after they had pinged off!

when they break off they leave the glue on the nail and then they look rough as ****. My misses has just completed her course on doing Nail Extensions etc, shes going to be doing local mobile work for people. I might get her to post something up here for you later if shes free.

Thumbs up

the nail bed needs oxygen to toughen them up, which doesn't happen if you have acrylic put over the top of them. My nails went really manky and it put me off a bit.
But, I have quite a nail varnish collection which doesn't look right on nails which are all different lengths so I had extensions (not too long). I had acrylics put on at first to get my nails to grow to a decent length underneath, then as they grew out, clear UV gel was put on instead and I have them re-done every three weeks. Even when I managed to rip off the gel, the nail didn't break underneath. As a result, I now have nice nails which don't break on constant use of a computer keyboard (and varnish always lasts longer than on real nails ))

cant you just get french tip manicure or whatever its called, clear nails but they high light the white bit at the end and shape the nail nicely too, always much classier/sexier than extensions

showing some dangerous bird like tendancies here!!

That's what I have - short white tips (white gel) and then clear over that so if I take the varnish off, I have neat french manicure underneath. I'm not keen on the talons looks - its a bugger to put on long boots or anything else for that matter!!!!!
£20 every three weeks for just having the clear gel, £25 every other three weeks for the white gel as well. You can get cheaper round our way but I like where I go and have a good natter / town gossip at the same time!!!!

But you are right, you are showing some real dangerous traits here

i used to be a nail technician and can vouch for millennium salon gold nail tips.
UV Gel is better to use as acrylic does not allow the nail to breath. all false nails will eventually ruin your own nails if not applied and removed properly.your own nails will suffer from thinning every time you have them removed but a good nail technician will do her best to minimise this. i always advised that after three new nail applications to give the nails a few weeks off. HTH

the tips i mentioned only require a clear gel as the tip itself is whiter than the rest of the nail

I have them done by the local Vietnamese place. He is brilliant and his nails look really good. Not thick and chunky like I've had before.

I pay £28 for a full set and £16 for infills.

I love them because I can't grow my own nails. I bite them and they never grew very well anyway.
