Alton Towers - any suggestions on order of rides?
Off to Alton Towers for a day and haven't been for over 10 years so can't remember the place. What are the best rides and what order is best to do them in? (ie I have heard Rita is the best ride so no point doing that first and making the others have less of an impact)
Any tips and advice welcome that would male the day better.

Tea Cup ride.....
We went last year and managed to get a day in the hotel swimming pool thingy (Caraba Creek or sumat), over night with breakfast, and passes into the park for £99. Also, if you stay in the hotel, you get early access to the park before it opens to joe public, so you can nearly do all the big rides without queing.
I think if you go through the main entrance and head in a leftish direction, you'll find all the big new stuff in one place. You pass it on train from the car parks.

Last time i went air was the newest ride there, think there are a few more now though. If you get there early try and get on the most popular rides first. Oblivion is good so is air and nemesis. water flume is OK too. Had to queue for nearly 40 mins to get on black the hole so gave up in the end.

Hotel = early access to the park + que jumper tickets.
I would not go NEAR the place without these, last time i went i got in the park early, did all the big rides (nemisis 4 times, 3 at the front and no que....in fact i was knackered the 4th time so let a few people in front of me to get my breath back!) After the big rides we then used the ques jumper to get on the medium rides ahead of the chavs.....by 12 noon we had done all the good rides and it was getting busy so back to the hotel and a day in the pool!

I will wager anyone that after a session in there with me and a friend at the helm, you'll be begging to get on Oblivion for a break.....and so will we!!
I've been on some *Big* rides in my time, but nothing has made me more giddy than those things.
Seriously, they should really be called "vomit pots!"

I went a few years back on August Bank Holiday. We were expecting it to be packed, but I think the longest we queued for any ride all day was about half an hour. It wasn't like the weather was poor either, it was a lovely sunny day

Either that, or it was collect a weeks worth of tokens from the Sun, can't remember which, but it was £99.

I was there on Sat just gone.
The newest big ride is Rita, which means it is busy, I would suggest you go down and do it first. Whilst Rita is fast 0-100kph in 2.5 secs IIRC, its not actually that exhilarating, doesn't get the old heart going the same way as Oblivion does.
I didn't do Nemesis or Air this time as we had the kids and it just wasn't fair for them to wait for me on every big ride so can't coment on these as it years since I've been on them.
My preference
Oblivion (still scary)
Rita (fast, feel the G's but sort of lacking that heart in mouth feeling)
Spinball Wizzer (can't help but laugh all the way round)

I've been up there several times, always stay in a b&b in Alton itself. There are some cracking little B&B/small hotels around, not more than a mile away from the park. The Alton Bridge is ok.
Somewhere around 45 quid should see you in a nice room in a nice b&b.
I would never ever contemplate spending the rip off prices the official alton towers hotels charge

Last time I went I avoided the rides throughout the day and just enjoyed a few beers (not sure if the trick still works ) and the sunshine until the tour buses and families started to leave. Queued no longer than 10 minutes for every ride between 6 and the 9pm close (dependant on time of year I believe).
I remember going with school when I was about 13 and white was the big fashion that year, which was ace when halfway through a blisteringly hot day the heavens opened and all the already scantily clad girls clothes went transparent

You have to remember the benifits of it though.....if you assume an average que is 25 mins (ignore that they are often 1hr +) then you can easily save 3 hrs of queing by using the hotel (+ the pool).
Depends on what you enjoy but i will happily pay an extra £100 or so to dodge 3hrs of standing around.

As above, I go 'off-peak' during a weekday during term time. If Bravo is saying 120 quid for room only, does that even include tickets to the park? IIRC you can book queue jumper tickets and they are not that expensive.
