The Times

Quote:
The Treasury has played down the extent of the changes. However, the Finance Bill, to be debated in the House of Commons tomorrow, makes clear that both employers and employees will now be taxed if they use office computers for personal reasons, such as surfing the web or sending e-mails to friends, unless their personal use is “not significant”.
Quote:
Under the rules that replace the scheme, office computers used in part for non-business purposes are treated as a benefit in kind, meaning that employees will have to pay income tax on them, and employers will have to pay national insurance contributions for them as well.

Nice to see them focussed on the important things rather than the trivial, say the trivial 2bn paid out in error by the Tax credit people!

Honestly whatever next, window tax, perhaps they could call the new tax the windows tax

Air tax,

The more you breathe in, the more CO2 you breathe out!

Expect a stealth tax to hit you in the lungs soon!

Hello

Surely that is debatable though. Almost everyone in a certain kind of job has a laptop and the amount of 'personal' use can't really be monitored.

I have to connect to external websites via our portal app for testing, scoobynet just happens to be convenient for that purpose

Good old Labour

I guess the huge cost of keeping all these criminal immigrants in prison, and then all the benefits and legal aid they get when theyre out has to be met somehow

If you use your home PC for work purposes, will you be able to claim tax relief?

Hello

Yes. But I'm not in the office that much, so the log files from there wouldn't be worth much and the remote access software can track (I assume) but I doubt that they would bother to send that report every month to my employer.

Ah but it is not a benefit in kind as I need a laptop for work, I did not ask for one I was given one without a choice, I also have remote access so that I can log in from home. Plus when I log in form home I do not surf the net whilst logged into work as the server logs will log it, I disconnect and then surf and the router logs on my router are switched off so nothing gets logged would like to see them try and tax me. If they decide to tax the fact I have a laptop I will just give it back and use my desktop pc at work so still no tax money from me. The tried to tax our mobile phones so we all handed them back saying ok here you go, the company flapped and paniced and said oh ok and gave them all back to us. The company needs me to have a laptop and mobile more than I need the company to give me them so there is no way I am paying tax on anything except my salary.
