Widescreen TV & Home cinema kit problem
Guys,
We the **** when I watch a movie on my widescreen TV do I have back bars at the top and bottom of the screen?
The TV is toshiba, ive got buttons for screen size (Wide, live, cinema, subtitle etc). But nothing I do takes away the stupid black bars.
Anyone have an idea what I need to do?
Thanks,
Shaun

Probably the DVD is shown in Cinemascope/Panavision - an aspect ratio of 2.35:1, whereas the 16:9 aspect ratio of your TV is only about 1.78:1. Therefore to fit the whole width onto your screen, the TV either has to show black bars top and bottom, or artificial stretch the picture's height to fill the screen. If you want to go for the latter, your TV has probably got some kind of "smart" mode whereby it stretches the picture as it sees fit in order to fill the screen.
This link might be helpful in explaining the various aspect ratios used in cinema http://www.dvdaust.com/aspect.htm
