Our local asda is a pay and display but the council have forced asda to charge. bad really as it used to be free so asda now say if you shop there they'll give you your money back. Must cost Asda a fortune to do that though.

Usually it's inner-city/town supermarkets which charge to discourage people parking there to shop elsewhere.
In Northampton, we have a Morrisons in town which is pay and display, but they give the money back if you shop there, plus they make you put £1 in the trolley to make sure you're not a chav and are going to chuck it in the canal or something.
I always thought a £ for a trolley was a bargain!
