Angry Went to get my new breitling today (at last)...

or so I thought

Had decided on the colt gmt, tried it on again and it just ain't big enough

Thought long and hard about it and decided I just was never going to be happy as I do like a big watch.

Tried all other breitlings on (thumbs up to goldsmiths in birmingham they were excellent) and none appealed, until this one

http://www.blitzwatches.co.uk/produc...productid=1948

It is just beautiful, picture doesn't do it justice at all, prefer the white dial though. problem is its a £1000 more.

Now can't make my mind up what to do, no point in spending 1300 and not being happy with a watch but I can't justify another 1000.

Looks like I am remaining watchless for a while

You have to be 100% happy or every time you looked at it, it would be a compromise.

If I was spending that kind of money on a big watch today, I'd be getting me one of these:

http://www.lacotedesmontres.com/Giul...ro-No_4128.htm (French but nice pics)

Big enough for ya..?

If you like big, the Chrono Avenger http://www.blitzwatches.co.uk/produc...productid=2764 is huge and cheaper then the one you're lusting after.

Not wishing to offend anyone - but why on earth would you want something so expensive sat on your wrist when something so much cheaper will do the same job, especially in today's climate - street crime etc?

My favourite big watch is the Rolex Yachtmaster. 40mm. Very, very nice watch that I very nearly bought two years ago, but to be honest couldn't afford / justify it at the time, think it was in the region of 5 or 6 grand depending on the waiting time. A few years though! It's not easy finding your perfect watch, and for that sort of money, it has to be perfect!!

My current watch is a dress watch really, and I need "more chunk"!

Why do people buy engagement rings for ten grand (or whatever price you want to say) when Elizabeth Duke do one that "does the same job" for twenty five quid?

Tried that on to yesterday, it is no where near as nice as the evolution in the flesh. The evolution has highly polished strap and bezel which is a real statement.

Thanks for pointer though.

Breitling - they are soooo cool.

Got mine almost a year ago and it has been faultless. I never take this thing off, it's been baked on a beach, dug in the sand, spent hours diving - and never missed a beat. I've even whacked it a few times in the engine bay - and not a mark on it

Now all I need is a navitimer

Easily the best £1500 I've spent

Yeah I wouldn't buy off the net, only because I like the idea of a big name dealer as like goldsmiths as a fall back if anything goes wrong.

Also IMO it is out of order me going into their shops having a good service and then buying off the net, they can get to within a 100 of blitz prices anyway.

Wink

Another thumbs up for the Yacht-master Its a snip at 4,600

My other one is a GMTll Rolex, I actually prefer the look of it than the yachty, 2,400 I think. If youre getting from a big store, Goldsmiths is a good choice. Got both of mine from the one in Leicester, and I *think* they do % finance over 9 months too.

Because girls like jewellery?

Actually I don't mind flash watches, but of all the ones I've had (inc rado, omega & Dunhill but not brietling to be fair), none have been as trouble-free as the Swatch I'm wearing now.

Well I wasn't really being serious, but I do think it's fair to say that women spend more on jewellery than men, as a rule of thumb. And comparing an engagement ring, which is obviously symbolic of many things, with a bit of bloke-bling seems a bit wierd! A cheap engagement ring doesn't "do the same job" as a cheap watch... very feckin far from it I should think. Brun's point (I thought) was that a cheap watch still performs its primary function, but that depends what you think its primary function ought to be I guess.

Each to his own innit. My cousin collects this sort of watch, seems wierd to me but he likes it.
