Default Super Size Me

On channel four now - I'm finally getting round to watching it.

A rather obese fourteen year old girl has just stated that by eating healthily (and trying to lose weight), she ended up hurting her body, which is why she's so big. That's the worst excuse I've ever heard.

bit of a daft film.....eating nothing but cucumbers for a month would have done him more harm! QUICK.....BAN VEG!

i like to work on the basis that if someone can do NOTHING but eat one food type solid for 30 days and get nothing more than a bit fatter.....that food type is fine for the odd snack.

I think his docs thought he wasn't getting "nothing more than a bit fatter" - "your liver is turning to paté" was a quote ISTR.

What was the one on last night with the guy living the life of a Muslim for 30 days? Cant remember, definately the same people who made Super Size me though. He asked the average america (or so we're led to believe) what do they see when you say a Muslim woman - Answer- A woman with a sheeth over her head. And what do you see when I say a Muslim man. - Answer - A man with an AK47

Superb

The difference being that McDonalds said eating it regularly is good for you, which it blatantly isn't.

Yeah but although he said he would try everything on the menu, he only really ever ate Big Macs etc. Also, it looked like he ate every bit of each meal (making him sick on occasion) rather than stopping when he was full.
Sensationalist rubbish I thought.

I regularly eat McDonnalds twice a year - never done me any harm.

Are you confusing regularly with frequently?

The worst thing in all these films is how schools serve up so much crap and are so much under the thumb of big business.

That's exactly what America needs, though.

When you compare the advertising budgets available to the big fast-food companies, with that of the government's 'healthy eating' schemes, there's no wonder it's become such a vast problem.

Have to admit, between `Super size me` & `Jamies School dinners`, I've never eaten a McDonalds, or Burger king since.

I do miss the Whoppers though..........Mmmm

Who cares though? let the Americans kill themselves with fatty foods, who cares about them means there will be less dangerously thick people wandering around the planet

Seriously though why should it be up to the Government to say dont eat Maccys all the time its unhealthy for you? Waste of their time when they can be doing other stuff thats worthy of tax payers money, like building Nuclear Bombs

heres what i never understand...people slate mcd's and say the meats no good.....now we know its not the stuff to get fit on but whats the problem, its just a treat.

but people say "but the meat is crap and contains bits of this/that and the other".....hang on....you are eating a DEAD ANIMAL....we appreciate the meat isnt as good for you but beyond that if you are eating a chickens tit or its ****...who cares?

every other carnivore on the planet eats the other animal...you dont see lions bring down a zebra, eat the rump then leave the rest because its nasty!

the ONLY prob with Mcd's is people get addicted and over use of mc'ds is as bad as any over consumption...****, booze, drugs...etc.

"Forget the health benefits, its just cr@p food."

why is it? its warm, its fast and you dont need a knife and fork.....if you like the taste (and billions do) then that makes it superb food.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a Maccy D's, but I have limited my intake to the odd burger now and then. No nuggets at all. Don't even buy them at the supermarket.

This was after seeing Jamie Oliver graphically "make" a chicken nugget. Since then, nobody in my family has eaten nuggets.

I know it's the same principle for the burgers (processed food), but it makes one HELL of a difference watching it being processed

The other thing that has reduced my intake of "junk food", is that I always ensure that the burgers are "special orders" - no salad (used to work in catering and will NEVER eat food that hasn't been cooked - call it a bad experience)
When the burger arrives in it's box, open it up and look at the fat dripping out of the meat

Now, I'm neither stupid nor overly intelligent (I am intelligent, but I'm playing it down for the thicko plebs in the virtual world!! ) - BUT, it's a no-brainer to grasp that even with exercise etc, you would have to do an awful lot to override that extra calorie intake.
Even worse if you "treat" yourself on a regular basis.

This is an education issue - society has to accept (as it already understands) that there are penalties for eating this way.

Time for certain countries (including GB) to pull their heads out of the sand and address it.

"This was after seeing Jamie Oliver graphically "make" a chicken nugget."

but healthy food issues aside that "make a nugget" thing was about making people go "YUK".....if it was 100% about health he would use a speadsheet with the amount of good stuff V bad stuff......as it was he used gooey paste V a chickens leg and kids would rather eat a drumstick.

give me those kids and a chicken, i'll kill the chicken, rip its leg off and cook it then offer them that or a nugget in a mc'ds box with a free toy - see how many eat the dead animal leg then

Your dead right Tiggs, but what really opened my eyes (and even moreso as a responsible adult with kids) was the amount of "chicken" in the nuggets.....

By definition of "chicken", this can be interpreted as anything on the chicken. Some of which is ok, but given a choice, many in society wouldn't eat the beak, claws, head etc - effectively "pluck it and process it!".....

Granted this goes totally out the window on a Friday night, after 20pints, and you have a hot dog or kebab of some sort!

However, my point still stands with these other "foods" - the fat content is the killer, not necessarily the "meat" content.

I see what you're saying, but there is a big difference to the actual content in these foods. Liek I've said though, I enjoy a Maccy D as well, but I'm under NO illusion (albeit only recently - 10 yr or so, if I'm honest) that it's not overly good for you.

Like most things in life - moderation is the key factor.

If it wasn't, why is "gluttony" a sin
