Thumbs up being short sighted...

feking hate it at night

i am only mildly short sighted and need to wear bins at night cos the oncoming headlights look like Sarfend candyfloss

i wanted laser treatment but was told that my eyes werent bad enough and it could make my vision worse not better. apparently if my sight was only slightly worse i could have the op and see perfectly

has anyone here had laser treatment and what was you prescription before the treatment........mine is -1.25 in both eyes

Think yourself lucky girl - I'm -5.5 in each eye and as much as I would love to have laser surgery, most places tell me they couldn't cure it completely and I'd still have to wear lenses.

You think thats bad mine are -5.75 in both

The joke is when I went for the laser check up they said they could make them better but not perfect and when I put my glasses on I would not be able to see as well as previous

So I would have been FOOKED with my glasses and without!! not only that considerably lighter in the wallet

mine was -1.25 in one eye and -1.5 in the other. But I only lasered one eye and can't remember which one. However, they were more than happy to do both eyes but I thought I'd keep a "reading eye" for when I'm older ;-)

I don't believe you can't have it done as some sportsmen with 20/20 vision have had laser surgery just to eek out a bit more (can't remember where I read it, but I think Nasser Hussain had wavefront done).

I'd get a second opinion if I were you. Oh and my vision in the corrected eye is absolutely bob on, a couple of lines better than 20/20.

Sounds like you need Ortho K lenses. Put them in when you sleep and when you wake up your vision is perfect.

if you want any details just PM me and quite happy to fill you in on all the details, gory and all.
I was -5 in one eye and -4.5 in the other. both eyes lasered and both fine.
in fact i had lasic in one eye and prk in the other (long story) and the lasic eye is better for vision.plus it fecking hurts less than the prk.

They can laser you eyes up to higher prescriptions, but the % of success falls off over -5.
Most ppl over -5 tend to have to wear glasses for night driving after laser treatmnet due to the glare.

also remember ppl, the big downside, apart from the cost and initial discomfort, is the fact that you are swapping one eyesight for another and whereas if you were normal sighted, the age at which you have to wear glasses for reading as you become long sighted is a certain age, if you were short sighted that age is delayed as your eyes refocus before coming into long sighted..what tghat means is that all the short sighted ppl would have longer without long sighted diffulculty as opposed to normal or lasered eyes
but what the heck, by the time i get to that age, i hope they have taken my car licence off me

There is some truth in the fact that eyesight and related issues such as cataracts and astigmatism etc can be genetic. however because your uncle on your dad's side was tall and had wall eye vision, does not really have much effect on wether you are going to be short or long sighted

There's lots of things you can do to help improve your eyesight without risking laser.

Check out
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bates_Method

I'm badly myopic. Last year I discovered these methods and my eyes have been getting better ever since.
I used to have really sensitive eyes, now sunlight rarely bothers me.
A year ago my prescription was roughly -15 in both eyes. Last time I had 'em checked (september) they were approx -13.75. I've really increased things lately and I'm certainly in need of new lenses.
There's lots to it all and how depending how open minded and how badly you want better eyesight is how well you'd get on.
Contact lenses and glasses only correct vision problems while you wear them. They dont help your eyesight get better - in fact they make them worse. How many times have you had your eyes tested and been told you'll need a stronger prescription?
It's all about realxing the muscles around the eye.
My contact lense guy's baffled how my eyesight is getting better. But he has said that the muscles around the eye need to be relaxed to work best.
Type Natural Vision or eye excercises into Google.

PM me if you're interested

I paid 600 quid for 1 eye lasek (no flap, just the epitheleal (sp) layer pushed aside). That was optimax - very professional, good follow up , I'd recommend them. Night driving is bob on. From what I can tell, you only get problems with night driving afterwards if you have exceptionally large pupils. The reason for this is that they let in light around the area that has been treated and therefore interfering with your corrected vision.

As for comments regarding sight when you get older, they suggest that you under correct (or don't correct at all in my case) one eye so that you can use that for reading as you get older. My uncorrected eye could see a gnat's **** 3 inches away, so I don't expect any problems later and my brain seems perfectly happy viewing mid to long ranges with the corrected eye and filtering out the uncorrected one.

tbh i find i can drive fine at night if i ever forget them/lose them, yes its naughty, bit i can still see everything, its just not 100% crystal clear

i still know when there is a cyclist to hit
and i still can see all the other road users and pedestrians, i can also see numberplates and such, i just cant tell you what the actual numbers and letters are

this i can not understand

there have been times when i have had trouble with one lens, and i have taken it out and left the other one in, and my brain just does not like it at all

i would rather have both in, or none in, 50/50 just does not work for me
