Question Another ebay question - quick answer required, please!

I'm selling an item on ebay with less than 2 hours to go. A new user (registered yesterday with no feedback at all) has asked whether I would post to Germany and will pay by Paypal and accept higher than stated postage costs.

The auction does clearly state that it for the UK only.

My question is would you accept this bid?

Is accepting payment from a new member on paypal secure?

Cheers

Mike

It's up to you if you want to take the risk, it may be genuine, but if you've put UK only, I'd be inclined to just say no.

Having said that - if the aution only makes it up to £20 or so, it's not much of a risk

I'd take a chance at that value. It's not the sort of item that is going to attract dodgy punters is it.

I used Paypal recently tppurchase and seller waited for Paypal "to clear" as he had had problems in the past. It all went through and I haven't a clue what was being "cleared" but may be someone can advise and you could do the same.

Just say no. You don't know this person, they have no feedback to give you any confidence that they're genuine, and PayPal will recover the money from you if their c/c turns out to be invalid.

All you stand to gain is the extra that this bidder would give you over the next best bid - and bear in mind that if they're not planning on paying up, they can bid what they like.

I only ever ship stuff I sell on Ebay within the UK - I see no reason to risk anything else for items that are likely to attract a fair price anyway.

Thumbs up

Thanks guys, you've clarified just what I was feeling ... why take the risk for a bit of greed!

Presumably if he is new, his paypal account would not be 'verified ' either?

Cancel his bid and block him from bidding again - if he cant read a simple thing like UK ONLY POSTAGE - then even ifs he's not a scammer, what other hassle is he going to cause ( 'oh I thought postage would only be 10p to Germany, please cancel my winning bid' etc... )

Not worth the hassle for a low priced item.

Angry Bl00dy thick ebayers.

The guy only went and bid anyway despite me replying that I would cancel his bid

I have just had to cancel his bid and one from another plonker (who I had already explained the UK only bit to) who wanted it sent to India.

Selling's proving a lot of hassle, I think I'll go back to being just a buyer!!!

You can set up to block bidders who are registered in countries to which you don't post, and you can also set up a blacklist of individuals you don't want bidding on your auctions.

It's really irritating, though; I have a hi-fi amp on Ebay right now and the auction clearly states:

Will post to United Kingdom.
...yet I've had emails asking me how much to post to Spain, Portugal and Greece already.

Read the f**king auction details, b*stards!!

Phew, that's better

Angry I don't believe this...

The auction has just ended and the winning bidder is from ... guess where... Germany !!!! FFS

What do I do now?

The winning bidder is not meeting the terms of the auction i.e. UK only.

How do I reject his winning bid? I could then make a 'second chance offer' to the other bidders.

B0llocks!

I'd drop them a mail, they seem to have good feedback, and say you can't post outside the UK, as per what you stated on your auction. Can they give you a UK address to post to or let you know when their courier will be collecting. Then leave it up to them.

Default Calm down guys!

I've sold loads of things to Germany, Netherlands, France etc. Never been let down, Europe seems pretty safe, Sold to USA as well, no problems. Only been let down with Paypal twice, both from UK.

Go for it, if he's paid by Paypal it's 99% secure. A lot of what I sell at the mo is low cost stuff, and most people who buy are very new to Paypal. Seems to work pretty fine for me.

For buyers it might be, sellers always run a risk accepting PayPal.

Low cost items are hardly a bother as you can't lose a great deal. Higher priced deals are always a big gamble.

looks like a genuine buyer - from his feedback, he specialises in camcorders (broken or otherwise...........!)

Talking Thanks for all the advice....

...the winner has agreed to cover the costs of postage to Germany and has kept in touch so should go OK. Just waiting for the funds to clear from PayPal now.

Cheers
