Default Me and My Mum

What a brave program for Tony Robinson to make. Incredibly personal and honest. Made me and the Mrs cry and think a lot about our parents and the future. Well done Tony and thanks for doing something thought provoking.

I agree it was an excellent bit of television and although, yes- I cried too, at least it wasn't over sentimentalised.

Mrs Leslie is the most unselfish person I Have ever known. She cared for her mother who had dementia for 15 years. Believe me that is very hard work and I don't know how she managed it. Small wonder that she has my deepest respect!

I watched it with much interest but is seemed to avoid the vicious side of this awful condition. Over 10 years I watched a genteel 80 year old lady turn into a foul mouthed woman that needed 3 nurses to hold her while trying to give her a sponge down. Not much dignity in that.

True, once went out with a nurse who worked in a care home form the elderly, the ones that needed looking after. She had excrement thrown on her, was molested regularly by elderly males, screamed at etc. They can revert to very nasty people. Very sad and I really respect the people that look after them as a job, I couldn't do it.

Maybe it "avoided" the vicious side of the condition because Mrs Robinson didn't have a vicious streak?
My gran has dementia for 10 years, and slowly became more child like.. She never once displayed a vicious steak.

I didn't see the program as being about dementia as such, more a personal journey for Tony Robinson and the problems he faced. I don't think it avoided anything, it told the story of "Me and My Mum" from his point of view.
