I thought windscreens were laminated so when you have a crash / hit a pheasant / are unfortunate enough to knock someone over...the screen doesn't shatter like a scene from the house of flying daggers nor does it shatter like a door window kindly spraying the occupents with little pieces of glass travelling at 70mph straight into your eyes...itchy!!

Windscreens are laminated, which is why they don't shatter these days.... but you do need to 'cut' the plastic film which is inbetween the two pieces of glass...... i've not seen/heard of a cream or mousse that can be used on screens... i cut a few in half mind you when i was a firefighter.....

There was an interesting article in an american firefighters mag about the B pillars on Subaru cars which, it turns out, they can't cut with the normal cutting gear. They have discovered that there are 6 or 7 layers of exotic steel plus a large steel bar in there. This only applies to the more recent cars but they did document that a lot of Subaru drivers were surviving amazing side on impacts because of it.
So, if you are trapped in your new shape Subaru and the fireman is trying to hack through the B pillar redirect him to cut the roof around the pillar, he'll never get through the pillar itself.
A bit off topic i know, but interesting i thought.

We have a problem at work where we have been told they haven't got anything to cut the roofs off our armoured Range Rovers we use as ARV's!!! Great seeing as we've just had new gun safes put in between our armoured front seats stopping us crawling through there and can't wind down our armoured front windows!!!
And before anyone says it, we cant shoot our way out in an emergency!!!

Gels or water are used to supress the glass dust produced when cutting the screens.
The screen is only cut as low as is necessary. The reason for the A post being left at that height is incase the dash needs to be 'rolled' where a relief cut is made at either side at the sill and a ram is place in between the A and B post and they are pushed away.
I have taken the roof off an MY04 Scoob no probs. I can only assume that the problems were had using a combi tool as opposed to dedicated cutters.
I think I would have been tempted to use a KED to get the guy out of the Jag as opposed to hacking the poor guys roof off.
