Default Staying in a castle, uk only.

It's our 15 year wedding anniversary in September, and she's said that a stay in an English Castle would be nice. Has anyone any recommendations of where to go. I'd prefer to stay in the England, but looking around the net, scotland seems to be the best place. So somewhere not too far from Manchester?

Thanks,
Chris.

The Landmark Trust have loads of great properties if you're looking for self catering, it's worth joining just to get the brochure!

http://www.chillingham-castle.com/

Stopped there a few years back with a group of mates for a long weekend.
Absolutely brilliant, drove to Bamburgh during the day and spent it on the beach.
At night it was party castle, the ghosts must have joined in as well

Because that was so good my mates decided to get married there last August.

agree on the hayden bridge choice. i used to live up that way in hexham and our favourite restaurant was the "General Havelock" Dont know if it is still there, but if it is, book a table (always used to be busy), right next to the river, lovely views and they make the best banoffi pie known to man )

also try and find a certain pub just on the outskirts of hexham, heading towards corbridge i think, called the RAT. fab pub, crazy decor, good beer and they make the best bacon and mushroom sarnies you will ever taste

the rest of the enertainmnet i think we can leave up to you

I think that's enough choice now guys. I'll going to get on the phone next week, and sort something out. Still not decided which to go for yet, but lordhardings recommendation seems the most likely atm
I'll let you all know either way in due course, may even end up in scotland after all

Hi CW

my brain was not in Gear thinking about NBO too much

It Was Langly castle near Hexham and is very good

ask for the Cumbrian special rate price which was good value this time of year ###

Lumbly castle is at chester lee street / durham and is out of this world I think I paid £200 for a night there (with someone elses wife ) 10 years ago

But Langly is good and especialy the drive down to it from Alston
