Just seen an advert on tv for BrightHouse..now never heard of this company before, but the ad was along the lines of "get the things you want really easily" which made me wonder.....then the tag line at the end, 29.9% APR.

A company a bit like Yes Car Credit, but for household appliances instead of cars.

So, had a look at their website, www.brighthouse.info, and it's all a bit grim.

Take this Samsung 32" LCD tv.

Now, I bought this tv for £780 on the web.

BrightHouse are charging £1200 to start with, BEFORE the credit charges kick in!!

They cost it as £16.99/week for 156 weeks (3 yrs) if you take the service cover (which the vulnerable will be talked into!), which comes to a total cost of £2650.44.

That is well over 3 times what I paid for the tv on the web!! In fact, the service cover comes to £930 in total charges over 3 years....MORE than I paid for the tv.

Nothing illegal in what they do, but certainly preying on people with credit problems.

Brighthouse were previously known as Crazy Georges, they had a shop where I live. I went in for a look when they first opened and the staff pounced on me as walked in, desperate to get a sale, I told them to **** off as they are a shower of robbers

The worse thing for me is that when celebrities are involved with promoting these companies so the more naive people may think 'if they say its good then it must be'. The Brighthouse one is advertised using Mel Sykes I think and doesnt Carol 'ace with numbers' Vorderman promote some loan company that rapes and pilages its uses?

I was watching the advert for Picture loans and borrowing 25k will cost you over 50k to pay back due to the interest rate and the length of repayment!!! Robbing *******s!!!

My mate used to work for them (Brighthouse) as a service upholsterer repairing the sofas that were under warranty/protection scheme. Don't feel bad for the people who shop there, they only make enough payments to cover the normal retail price before defaulting and laughing all the way to the County Court for a judgement they'll never pay. He was going to write a book about some of the characters he met, including a startling number of people who were drunk and still drinking at 10am!
