Adapting the English Language
Don't know if it's just me that get's wound up about it, but why do people often say "aks" when they mean "ask"? Prime culprit is old Patrick Truman on Eastenders - he always seem to say things like "why don't you aks her man"!
Even the Sugarbabes say it on one of their recent songs.
And as the Pussyminging Dolls, why do they sing "must stick with chew forever" when they mean "with you".
What's happening? Just thought I'd aks the question

It's what my old boy refers to as "the worship of mediocrity". As an ex deputy head in a comp, it used to drive him up the wall, especially when it manifested itself as kids thinking it was "cool" to get poor marks, but "geeky" to get good marks
Now, our kids worship these rappers, the way they speak (poorly), the way they dress, ( like in much bigger older brother's cast offs), the way they don't tie laces, ('cos most of 'em probably can't), etc etc.
We are descending to a new low, and there will be no coming back

Havent watched Eastenders for years, but I remember the black guy on there years ago ( Alan ? ) who lived with the rough blonde woman - he always said aks or aksed - I reckon the scriptwriters were taking the pi55 because every episode he had it at least half a dozen times in his lines.
The whole 'we is ghetto bra' thing ( or should that be 'ting' ) that kids do is hilarious though - just like most of their rap heroes they come from nice middle class families, but think it makes them appear cooler if they 'is more street' - most would crap themselves if they ever had to walk through a real ghetto at night.
