Angry CPS - is there anything they won't do to get a conviction?!

£4500 spent to fly an expert from the USA in speed guns over to get a conviction!

Speechless!

If it was a burglary with some evidence, where they had to actually 'detect' and investigate, it would prolly be crime number and on your way.

You forget its a motoring offence, so detection was a piece of p*ss, and therefore screwing the defendant, is to be maximised, once again the old go to court and you get worse,

Why is it if you appeal, the sentance often gets increased, when at best the sentance should stand if you loose, not made worse.

Given the waste and overspending from the CPS (55k last year i believe) is it not surprising!!

I think this was an argument about the 200mph brick wall 'slip' principle. I've seen that occur with my own eyes - be interesting to see the facts here [not that they county much in a Mags court]

Was it therefore the corporate manufacturer saying there was nothing wrong with the Speedgun that they produce? [Think Thalidomide, asbestos, **** etc etc!!!]

It was at this point that the Crown Prosecution Service called in Jeremy Dunne, technical vice president of the head of the American firm that supplies its laser cameras.
I expect the CPS was calling him as an Expert Witness.

What a great EW he would make, given the the Expert Witness Institute says:

1. Experts shall not do anything in the course of practising as an Expert, in any manner which compromises or impairs or is likely to compromise or impair any of the following:

a) the Expert’s independence, impartiality, objectivity and integrity,
b) the Expert’s duty to the Court or Tribunal,
c) the good repute of the Expert or of Experts generally,
d) the Expert’s proper standard of work,
e) the Expert’s duty to maintain confidentiality.
As Diesel says, he's hardly going to stand up in court and point out technical problems with the product which makes him money! A complete and utter joke.
