How New Labour cuts crime...
Dorset police sent out a letter aiming to reduce crime - suggesting that shoplifting offences shouldn't be reported if the value of stolen goods is less than £75.

Now all they need is a policy where we shouldn't report car thefts when the value is less than £75k and the government could almost eradicate car crime overnight
Anyway, blue touch paper lit, I'm going to retire to a safe distance.....

It is like giving a green light to the shoplifters, plenty of things to nick under £ 75.00, x that by say 20 and you have £ 1400.00 of goods, easy days work. I may move to Dorset and take it up if it is OK with the Plod - FFS WHAT ARE THEY THINKING???

Working clicky!
What the politically correct, bean-counter mentality, in charge of law enforcement fail to understand is that even if it costs £1000 pounds to prosecute a sub-75 quid shoplifter - there is a deterrent effect. If this deterrent is big enough (i.e. not just a caution, or tag, or badge-of-honour ASBO), then others will be discouraged from breaking the law.
But to trivialise (or indeed "ignore") offenses means that those who think that they can get away with it, will continue to get away with it, tens, hundreds, or even thousands of times
