Just Took My Yank Driving Test
Well yesterday infact.
Thought you lot might be interested in the differences:
Sitting in the car waiting for the examiner a bloody State trooper walks over
" er hello" i say " everything alright"
Yes Sir, I'm here to give you your driving test"
F*&K Me! wasn't expecting that one.
He then proceeded to check the car over, indicators etc and then asked me to do my hand signals, yep hand signals, which consisted of me sticking my left arm out the window and showing him how i would indicate left, right and stop if the electrics on my car were to fail Good job i read the book before the test!
Then off we go on the test..... for all of 4 minutes. In the that time I did a 3 point turn, a parallel park(in a space about as long as a skateboard! f*&ker ) and then a reversing in a straight line manouever!
Job done, and I was on my way home all within 10 minutes of arriving there.
No emergency stop, no A road driving and from what I saw the check list had about 10 things on it, and none of this 10 and 2 stuff, he said i could cross my hands if i wanted.
Well I now have my american licence, which is a bonus for me as now i don''t have to carry my passport everytime i go out to a bar for ID.

Forgot to add, my uk licence counts for nothing here when taking the test. All it means is you can drive for 1 year without having to take it. I had to take a written test to get my permit and then the practical, Having a UK licence doesn't allow you to skip any of the testing.

That is the norm. My friend did his. he said he went out for a 10 min drive and that was it.... They all drive Atuo's. Manuals are classed as standards i think...
