A week without smoking!
Finally decided to quit. Been smoking the old wacky tobaky on and off since I started uni at 18, 5 years ago. Threw my last bits away last friday. Havn't smoked since last tuesday evening!
Recently, I've been having quite a few family problems, (Dad had a stroke, i'm running his fork lift truck business whilst training become a driving instructor, half brother is jelous and wants control of Dads assets blah blah blah!) so my useage went up, sometimes 3-4 joints in one evening. I'd wake up feeling bloated (muchies), p*ssed off and generally cr%p.
Anyway, feel fantastic, clear headed and proud! I've always exercised through all of it though, running 3-4 times a week. Maybe thats what kept me sane! I thought of it as a sort of 'body flush'. Now i'm running without all the chest pains and I can harder, faster and longer.
Never again! Time to grow up.

Well done chris, must have been hard with all the extra stress involved to give up.
I gave up smoking cigars in november of last year, which was about the time I bought my new car BIG INCENTIVE! Been smoke free since then, but do still get the occasional twitch
Never been much of a wacky backy smoker myself, usually made me feel sick
Keep it up m8, and any tips for me to get out running, as I'm getting bigger
chris.

Well for this time of year, wrap up warm. The more layers the better: hat, gloves, thermals etc. You won't freeze to death as soon as you get outside, and you will also sweat more, encouraging weight loss.
Drink plenty of fluid (6-8 pints of water a day), only run atleast 2hours after a meal, buy some good quality running shoes, don't push to hard, just try and keep a steady pace for as long as possible. Don't aim for distance, aim for time. If you can jog/run for 20-30mins, 3/4times a week, you'll certainly notice a difference in a very short space of time. Keep a check on your heart rate at rest and also when you complete a run. Do some sit-ups when you get in while you are still 'in the zone'. 4x25 should do.
Oh, and don't be put off by the favourite saying 'Run Forest, RUN!'!

Well done mate, giving up smoking weed is harder then people think. All the lads I know who've given it up have gone on to bigger and better things and those who haven't are just treading water. Good life choice and one you won't regret. Now, where are my skins

Thanks for the tips chris, some sound advice there. I've got a hrm, so I guess I should start using that more than just on my bike rides
Situps as I cool down sounds a good idea too, will give that a go,
thanks,
chris.

2 weeks today!
Death to cancer sticks!
Death to cancer sticks!
Just don't get too cocky mate.......
You've got a few potentially tough times to get through.
I quit on April 9th 2005 ...... after failing on around 15 previous occasions and I reckon I had one of the toughest weekends last weekend wanting a joint / cigarette / nicotine patch .. you name it. I'd never have one......but it sure kept going through my head
Sometimes it just hits you for no reason ...
I found on all the previuous quitting attempts that 3 weeks and 3 months down the line were the banana skins.
Once you get through that amount of time you are relatively safe but never get too cocky. It's a cunning little drug that will play tricks on you for a long time. Just waiting for that one innebriated moment of weakness
If you've smoked alot of weed then you have other psychological associations that you are giving up as well, that can make things a bit more confusing (I want tobacco but brain gets confused thinking it wants weed or vice versa etc )
Keep it up and don't be dis-heartened by my post. Think of how much better your lungs will feel when out running in a few months time. You've yet to feel the real benefit. It's a gradual but steady improvement in your lung function that you don't immediately notice.
Just be careful that you don't have a down day (which will happen... I assure you) and think '**** it, one joint won't hurt'. You are quite rightly feeling really positive about it just now, but it WILL be full of ups and downs
Sermon over

I'm 2.5 weeks so far- it's been easier than I thought - i was 20 a day albeit mayfair fine for 10 years!!
Went a week on patches- too strong i thought i was buzzing off them- then cold turkey. Hardest for me was drinking so i changed what a drank- i was a guinness man now on bitter/lager and seems a little easier
Good luck to all
Like others I'm using the money towards a new car in '07 a good incentive

Welldone m8! As you said, its easier than what I thought it would be. My problem was always having a some puff and **** in the draw. Since I threw it all in the bin, the temptation isn't there! I always said that I would quit when I didn't enjoy it anymore......Hey Presto.
The main problem with giving anything up is the reason behind it. Are you quitting for you, or for public opinion??

I notice the bloke who tortured and killed his 92 day old baby was on cannabis, as was the martial arts bloke who butchered his parents. I have a mate who has smoked it for a few years and he's just had a complete nervous breakdown. I'm not saying that cannabis is the reason for any of this, but I don't think it helps!

Your mate's nervous breakdown would of happened at some point anyway and martial artists aren't exactly renowned for their mental stability

Quit smoking the wacky stuff on 22/12/05 - day I moved in with the bird.
Had been smoking fairly regularly since I was 16 as a social thing with my mates, rarely on my own.
Slipped on the 10/2/06 as my G/F went out with her pals and I went to my mates house. didn't have much tho' (no excuse).
None since - applying for jobs using my degree and may have to go thru' a medical.
You feel so much better, sleep better etc. I found the 3rd week a struggle tho'.
