Default Eliminating tobacco smell from car interior

I bought a car at the weekend which has a slight stale tobacco smell about it. Didn't notice it when I test drove it as it was -2C and I guess this subdued the odour a fair bit. The car is only 18 months old and immaculate otherwise.

I don't want to just use a masking spray (as these stink more than the tobacco). Is there a way to actually neutralise the smell without making the car smell like a tart's boudoir??

Anyone had the same problem

There is a little electronic gadget on the market that you leave in you car for a few hours and it nutralises the odour, buggered if i can nremember what its called tho . Might be worth a look on google If you find one let me know I know they are not very expensive

I bought a used car last year, 6 months old and stinking like an ashtray. The garage before I picked it up set off a lemon scented stink bomb (their description) inside the car and left it seeled in the car for a few hours. I picked the car up, and it was smelling very strongly of lemons. After about a month the scent was dying away, but there was no tobacco smell left. 6 months later all traces of tobacco smell are still gone.

I know there is something called 'ozone replacement' on the market.

Valeting companies have the machine that apparently sucks the air out of the car and replaces it. I read it is very effective and costs circa £100.

You can buy a chemical in most garages, comes in red or green cans,

just douse liberally and light

once the chemical has done its stuff, the tobbacco smell will have gone

job done

buy a neutradol block and stick it some where out of sight, it will gradually absorb the odour

or take up smoking cigars, you,ll never worry about the smell again

Get a smelly dog and lock it in the car.
You wont be bothered by the tobacco smell any more

If you don't smoke then the smell will go away in a few weeks.

That's what I wanted to say, although I was going to suggest a pair of WET dogs!

Or it may be easier to start smoking?

Yes, absolutely, if the previous owner had just tossed his **** out of the window, it wouldn't smell so bad! There would, however, be a hike in the number of insurance claims due to costly damaged paintwork and bodywork and all of our insurance premiums would rocket as a result!

A fish under the back seat should do it!

The air fresheners from Halfrauds aren't too bad, there's even one called "Tobacco" but I speak as a smoker who chucks his ***-ends out the car.

was busy buying stock today in the local trade warehouse and i noticed an "air con treatment" canister

the general idea was you put your air con on, crack this canister open with it in the rear foot well and leave it with the air on recirculate and all windows closed for 20 mins

from memory it was about £4.85 plus the vat

Put your shopping on the floor behind the drivers seat. Drive hard. Wait for milk carton to split. Wait three to four days - less if it is sunny.

Hey presto - no more annoying tobacco smells.

A bag full of freshly cut grass will absorb most smells quickly. You might get some odd looks cutting your grass at this time of year though

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I've decided to go for a combination of wet dogs, spilt milk and cut grass! That should work nicely

No ****?

Alternatively you could just drive with all the windows open at 70mph for free

I'd expect better from a failed mod.
