Plasma TV's
I know there's already a thread on here about LCD TV's, but we're looking to buy a 42" plasma to go in the lounge of our new house, so that our old widescreen TV can be retired to the garden room...
I remember there was an interesting thread on here a while ago with recommendations, but with the search function inactive, I can't find it. So, any comments?
We're thinking about the Panasonic TH-42PV500, mainly because it seems to get the best reviews everywhere and we like the stand you can get with it. It'll be around the £2300 mark with the stand - are there any better alternatives out there for this kind of money?
Any opinions/experiences would be helpful In particular, I was wondering what they're like for watching normal TV broadcasts on...

LCD is the norm up to 40" with plasma taking over above that. LCD suffers with slow pixel reaction making some fast moving images appear blurred. Contrast ratios can be poor due to the backlit technology. Plasma is a little faster with slightly better contrast, but can suffer screen burn if the same image is left on the screen for a long time. Lifespan is no longer an issue with 10+ years from most decent sets. Ensure you get HD ready, and don't be tempted by the cheaper brands as their panels tend to be older spec with poor colour and contrast with poor internal processing compounding the blurring issues.
If you can hang fire for a while they may both become redundant technology. Have a read of THIS and do some Googling for "Toshiba SED".

Not related at all - but I was driving through a council estate in Dunstable the other day, and all I could see though the window of this house was a huge bloody TV.
