New car prices in 1977
I'm looking for the prices of some cars which were on the UK market in 1977 (not their value now but what they cost when new). I've managed to find some (eg Scimitar GTE - the owners club website had the info), but I'm struggling on some others. Does anyone have any idea of where I might find the information online?

I found a bunch of old Essex Countryside magazines from the 60's and 70's in a loft we cleared out. I am sure there were some car adverts in there...I distinctly remember one for the Ford Capri. I remember the advert because the seatbelts were an optional extra!
Can't remember the price but I will try to find a copy if I get time.

The best I can do is a few of the cheapest models from January 1978. By way of comparison, a Scimitar GTE was listed at £6618:
Saab 99L 2 door £4150
Capri 1600L £3101
2000GL £3560
3000S £4327
Jaguar XJ3.4 £8174
Incidentally, Subaru had just started selling cars over here and the 'sporty' model was the 1600GFT at £3101. Car magazine called it a "second rate Alfasud imitator". The saloon faired a little better, being called a "nip with individuality at least"

Thanks, Daryl. Prices from Jan 78 are fine; I was looking for prices relative to each other so it was more important that they were from the same date rather than what the actual date was. Inflation was running at around 20% per annum back then so comparing the Saab price in May '77 with the Ford prices in Jan '78 wouldn't really have proved anything meaningful.
