Took an 18 month contract out with vodafone - now in month 13 my bill has doubled - apparently the txts that came on the price plan were only valid for 12 months! They failed to point this out when I took the deal although i'm sure it will be in the small print, they are still saying my price plan includes the txts but I have to pay for them. To cancel the contract will cost me more than paying the minimal bill for the next 6 months. Anyone had this problem and what did you do? - What if you just stop the direct debits - do they chase up?

so why didn't the AA do that when i was in dispute with the amount they took from my account? I froze account (originally until dispute was sorted) over a query but never heard from them again. My common sense John tells me to try and get the best deal I can so asked for peoples opinions and past experiences. Thanks for yours!

Have you got the contract?, does it state that the text price will increase after 12 months and did you sign the contract?. If so it is binding surely and you should have read it more thoroughly before agreeing to it?

as for what they might do - I would imagine Vodaphone will ruin your credit score and claw thier money back from you.

I did this with O2.

In the end they cut me off passed it to a debt collection agency who threatened court action. I paid the outstanding £40 (2months worth) and they cancelled the ontract (8 months to go). Bonus

Well this is what i'm trying to find out! Fooking Bell! The AA didn't bother giving me any black marks, I have had several credit checks since (3yrs ago) for 2 cars, insurance (what the dispute was over), mobile phone contracts and credit cards.

If you have sat back and taken everything a big company has said to you without questioning it then fine - I'm happy for you to keep paying for stuff you don't want - but I am just asking for some advice to see where I stand.

O2 didnt give me black marks. They didn't chase for money or make ANY contact before the debt collection people did though. Just paid it and that was the end of that.

They will, as has been said, eat at your credit score, send your debt to big hairy men to collect it and disconnect your number...
You will then have to go on pay as you go which is scummy
Most of the networks (I used to work for O2) will not let you downgrade tariffs mid term, only upgrade to more expensive ones.
The trick is to review your useage and reduce it where possible...

Cheers - looks like it's going to cost me for the next six months unless they forgot to put it in my contract. Will check when I get home - only found out today it had doubled and they weren't useful on the phone at all!

The thing was I hadn't renewed my contract. I bought a phone, which wasn't a "handset upgrade" and the buggers restarted my contract.

I thought with Vodaphone you can change your price plan after 12 months even with an 18 month contract, you may have to sign up for 18 months again but if you do make sure you understand the full implications

Yeah I can change price plan but no free texts as they are for new deals only - I'll be no better off. The prob I have is i ordered it off the net (from Vodafone themselves) read through the small print can't remember seeing this 12 month bit otherwise i'd have not taken it out - but now the conditions aren't available. Damn this internet buying!

Ah well looks like i'll be biting the bullet - wish Vodafone were more like the AA

I changed my price plan with T-mobile 8 months into an 18 month contract - told them I didn't see the point of paying God knows how much for free calls and texts I was never going to use - they checked my usage over the 10 months and agreed with me! They changed the tariff straightaway and credited me for the part of the month I'd already paid for.
