Default SPEED TRAPS

My mate was driving along a bit too fast seen the yellow jacket of a policeman swing the gun in his direction. they got his speed as he was driving by and took his speed at the back of his car, CAN they do this does it not have to be front of car they said he was doing 64 in a 30 as he was by them they had to chase after him to let him know and were then going to charge him with failure to stop

If he was doing 64 in a 30 he deserves to get done.

if they got a veiw from the back of the car they cant prove he was driving it,
thats why there a load of front veiw speed cameras going into circalation now.
but driving at twice the speed limit is a bit over the top, he could have quite easily killed someone ie kid or pensoners.

lasar guns work both from both the front and back

Q. Can they target the back of the car?
A. Yes, the front and the rear of a vehicle are fair game
taken from : http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/

he will most certainly go to court, and for doing 60 in a built area most likely get banned.

and deservedly so. Not In all my years of driving, have i ever found a dual carriageway or single carriageway thats had a 30 mph, but not been in a built up area. If a pedestrian stepped out in front of him at that speed they would have been done for. And night time is no excuse, its even worse at night as you never see them step out, and quite often you get students staggering about on their way back from the pub.

but to answer your question yes they can do him.

dont Exaggerate, not every place in a 30 limit is a school.

the whole "they cant proove it was him driving" thing has no relevance. He was caught by an officer with a handheld gun. He was then persued and pulled over and caught driving the vehicle

thus any defence of "it wasnt me" wont stand a chance in court.

He could claim that it wasnt him, and that he only just started driving, but unless that person is willing to take the rap for him, then he will go to court over it. That is assuming of course he wasnt caught on video driving towards the police officer in the first place.

Bit strange - most motorways I know have a slip road of some sort, or when they do finish go into a 60 or 50 zone. Don't know of any which go from a 70 to a 30 - which motorway was it?

There is a dual carriage way in wallasey that goes from 70 to 40 to 30 quite quickly and its a bend, so the cops sit on t'uther side with a gun. Many a car caught doing over 30, its also a hill coming down so it takes a lot of breaking too, however there is a junction at the bottom!

Twice the limit is a bit much though mate, not gonna be able to stop at that kinda speed!!!

Lot of hostility towards people speeding on here. Havent read anyhting about where the location was. Could be a situation like near my house... 30 zone on open road no houses, the only thing i ever pass on this 30 stretch of road is a copper with a gun. And when hes there it causes more tail backs than when he isn`t. No crashes either and well lit nice wider than normal road...
64 is excessive but i find myself hovering around the 40-45 mark in 30 zones. Not through choice, but just to keep the car going without it chugging along...

Sorry to hijack.... But what gear do people drive in to do 30MPH!!!!!
