Nippers and their cars.

Nippers and their cars.
When I see all the comments on here about nippers and Nova's,Chavs etc I get annoyed. It wasn't too long ago I was running around in souped up crap and baiting all and sundry in higher powered cars. I also live in an area where im not plagued by kids tail gating me for a race, infact they tend to flash there lights and wave...... Off track I think the scoob will be the Nova of the future and is increasingly becoming so now .....
An example of how you can get the wrong impression is a nipper at my work. I would say he is 19 years old. His main car was a 406 ex company car from my work which he drove everywhere at 300mph with the music blasting. His second car is a Fiat Panda, now this is no normal panda, its covered and I mean covered with every accessory and awful sticker known to man. Huge rear spoiler, OMP here, hand painted wheels there, its got the lot. That has probably given an impression of the nipper in question........whatta pratt, most are saying.
So what has he done? He's been out and bought an old Camero. This thing is ugly as sin, probably cost him £2K tops but when he drives it up the road WOOOOOOOOOW what a noise that thing makes. I find myself listening to it when im walking home popping and banging on overrun and feeling insanely jealous. All of a sudden my opinion of him has changed just because he changed cars ....... How fickly is that?
Give the nippers a break, we have all been there.

Personally I like Nova's, think they are quite a good looking car when tastefully modded and can be turned into good tools.
Nobody ever calls an original mini a chav car do they? I wonder why? because most people have owned one?

When I say they are ok im not about to go buy one as an everyday driver but see the reason the nippers want to own them. They are freely available, easy to mod and loads of companies supply parts for them and they are cheap......
If I was building a new front wheel driver track car then there would be no reason the Nova wouldnt be on the list.

Just to get back on track the thread wasn't supposed to be about Nova's it was about how we term and feel about youngsters with their cars and how we were exactly the same in the past.......

I would imagine a lot of posters on this site are still like that now... just with a faster/more expensive car.
I'm certainly guilty of 'having a go' on the rare occasion I come across a Ferrari/911 etc. And just like the Fezzer driver would probably put his foot down to 'stamp his authority on me', I'd do the same to a 17yo Nova driver. In fact, I'd be disappointed if the Ferrari didn't take the bait.
I'm not a big fan of modding myself, but I don't look down on other people for doing it. Having said that, hand-painted wheels are taking it a bit too far...

I was never inclined to own this sort of ****? I had an escort with the standard Si spoiler, and then bought a zetec-s from new (kept standard) and then bought a scoob. Scoob was about the most boyracerish car I've had.
Just because you are young doesnt mean you have to buy a shat car and make it shatter by putting crap on it. None of my mates have either?!
The ones in these "modified"/chavved up ones DO deserve to be jipped!

By the way - I'm not talking about the people who just stick alloys on. I'm talking about the ones who make the car look like a crock of ****e with all and sundry stuck to it. Supra bodykits on a corsa etc.

1 Dutton, 2 205s, 1 Impreza. The Dutton had a whip arial added when a normal one would have done, one of the Pugs had a busted mobile phone arial so I bought a new one for a tenner (yes I didn't have a mobile! ), but apart from that, spending a fortune on glittery plastic to weigh me down and get extra police attention, no, can't say I was ever that stupid. My money went on carbs, cherry bomb sidepipe, K&N filters, disc brakes, etc. And I told the dealer to take the gold wheels off the scoob before I bought it.

You're just jealous as I got to the French clutter 10 years before you
EDIT - actually, do you see the irony? You used to buy old bangers and stick bits on, now you buy old bangers and rip them off?

The Nova obviously has a bad reputation, but if u look under all that bollocks its a great wee car. People laugh if somebody says they are a car enthusiast and own a Nova, the normal response is that the two dont go together. But they do, its the perfect car for someone who wants a 2nd car for messing around and tuning etc but does'nt have a large budget. There's no better sight than a rusty old Nova with a 2Ltr under the hood pissing all over some high flying banker in his 30/40k Merc/BMW. Its the look of disbelief on there face, they simply dont understand how its possible. Thats normally because they dont have a clue about cars and they've just been handed there expensive motor to keep them happy in there job.
P.s its not a dig at bankers, just needed an example.

I pulled a 17 year old out of his Nova yesterday, then got his car out using my Landrover. Was amazed my Defender managed to drag the thing out but it did!
Anyway he was your typical chava, but when talking to him really nice bloke. He was very grateful for me pulling him out, even though it damaged the car more getting him out!
Sorry for the pic quaility.

Nevetas very nice looking defender from what i can see
My first car was a 1.2 nova and it was not a bad car at the time. Currently after a defender, if i cant go fast i will have to drive slowly and get muddy

Gary, I like your 1st post, It makes me smile whenever I see anyone with a modded car. Doesn't matter if it has been done well or not, I just enjoy seeing people doing what they want with their motor. I thing it's great, living in a community where people can actually afford to mod their cars.
Robin.
