Default Basic or interesting Mandarin words or phrases?

Does anyone have a link to a website with basic mandarin? I would like to be able to exchange a few sentances or words with a supplier I have in nanjing.

I have serached google but cant seem to find anything of any use

I know a friend who was learning chinese - he said the sound of the word for chicken was virtually identical to that for baby.

So just be REALLY careful what you order from your local chinese restaurant...

**Caveat - the bloke who told me these was a bit of a ****.**

Fay chang hau = Excellent!

Mu hau = not very good

The point is, it's tonal. So what you say in a high voice means something totally different from the same (written) word in a low voice. You can't just look at something and read it, you have to know how high or low to read it. Friend who had learned Chinese at university kept tapes in the car so she wouldn't forget.
