Driving license Q: (Police?)
Is it possible to have more than 12 points on your license and not be
disqualified from driving?
Any of the officers on here know?
If anyone has any proof that would be great!
I remember seeing posts on here about 'Barry' and his Sierra having
>15 points and not getting banned due to needing to drive for work etc.
Cheers guys

Yes it is possible. If the defendant can show the court that the loss of their licence would have a severely detrimental effect on their livelyhood and that of their family. Drink drive carries mandatory ban.Other offences are at the discretion of the court...Normally reflected in the size of the fine.

A guy I know Sales Rep type individual has 13 points all for speeding. A letter from his boss was produced in court and he was allowed to go to 13. Hefty hefty fine though. Also if he gets done again Leroy is gonna have his ***.

I used to know a guy with licenses in 9 States.
He would rotate the licenses when stopped.
Don't know if that's still possible though.
Or even viable in GB.
Good luck on those 15 points, any more and you're fooked.

I am also aware of a bloke who had 17 (!!!!) on his licence which he proved to me. Disqualification for 'totting up' is at the descretion of the Court
At the time he was a mini-cab driver, he was a sole income provider for his wife, several kids and his poor old Mum. He would say that his whole family would starve if he couldn't drive.
The Court believed him

You would have thought people who needed their car that desperately for a living would be a bit more careful once they got up to 9 points or so.
If I was on 9 points I'd be going out and buying a car incapable of breaking speed limits.

If it was a choice between that and losing my license for a year ( that I so desperately need to feed my family etc... etc... ) then yes.
Or I'd buy a Daewoo Matiz, as the amount of time it would take you to accelerate to a speed above the limit you'd have arrived where you were going.
My Father In Law was on 9 points a few years ago and sold his car and bought a diesel transit van that struggled to get over 60 on the motorway - didnt get any more points while he was driving that !
