Uh oh - ID cards back in the news...
The "bury the bad news brigade" have been at it again. Over Christmas a paper was published outlining how you'll be fined £2500 for not registering for an ID card, despite explict promises from the Government how this wouldnt happen!

I don't actually understand why anyone with an IQ in at least double figures ever throught anything else? Whatever the government may have said, it is obvious that ID cards can only work if they are compulsary, so this was always going to happen. Does it make Labour liars? Well, all governments lie to their electorate.

Town hall bureaucrats are to be given sweeping new powers to investigate homes for identity card evasion and to impose heavy fines on occupants found without one.
Frightening.

The irony is everyone worried about Margaret Thatcher and the Conservatives. This government is typical of every socialist party ever...they want to control YOU. Because THEY know best. I find it really scary. What you see, what you drive, where you drive, how you drive, what you eat....after all GM crops are REALLY safe. Conservatives have never been perfect but they let you do what you want and accept you shouldn't have to spend all your cash on those things your local council feels you should be spending money on

I read a good quote today...
"Socialist redistribution is about taking property (usually in the form of taxes) away from those who have earned it, and giving it to those who have not. Thus, socialism is morally evil: it is simply government-sanctioned theft"

I remember a Radio 4 programme some 4/5 years ago discussing this and the reporter said the Home Office had a file on ID cards "on the shelf", just waiting for the opportunity to introduce it.
This suits the bureaucrats as well as the politicians.
Well Mr. and Mrs. Vegescoob will be on the other side of the World before this happens.
I just hope the "Colonial spirit" in New Zealand will resist any attempt by that Government to introduce such iniquitous legislation.
