Question claiming insurance

Theoretical question this

Do you HAVE to claim your insurance if you have a comming together

Say someone runs into the back of you their car is worse than yours

its the other partys fault etc can you legaly just say i don't want to make a claim ??

I know you must inform insurance co etc but just wondered what the legal position would be if you just said i don't care i will just leave it

You have to tell yours but you don't need to claim anything if you don't want to. Just better to let them know.

Technically you should report the accident to your insurance company, and I think you're meant to report it to the police as well (not 100 percent sure on this). The key thing is to make sure the Insurance company know you are simply reporting an accident, and that you are *not* making a claim. Whether they will adjust your premium due to you simply reporting it, well, in theory they should not, but you have reported it as an accident and so they might.

I guess it depends on what the other person is going to do, if both of you decide to not report/claim then who is any the wiser?

Slightly different cirumstances here, but when I had someone pull out in front of me and I took out 12ft of hedge, I didn't claim on the insurance, or even mention it to the insurance company, even though I did report the accident to the police.

PMSL. It bloody well should have Though it was a nice strong hedge, and I scrubbed along it rather than going through it, broke a few branches in it, but that's about it. Was a good thing it was tough though, when I went back to check the hedge (needed to recover a bit of trim ) I noticed there was quite a drop on the other side.

Last time someone ran into my rear bumper I claimed direct from her insurance who coughed up immediately including for car hire.My company never needed to know since she admitted liability, She had no choice about that anyway.
